Work event advice

I started a new role this week, and will be meeting my team for the first time in person at an away day next week (my job is otherwise fully remote, so they’ve only seen my face in teams meetings so far). My role is senior and the attendees will be my entire wider team at all levels of seniority including the directors.

The event isn’t anything special, just held at a generic government office, standard conference and ice breaker activities.

Usually government offices have an “anything goes” dress code, it’s not particularly smart or formal. So I guess I want to wear something that suits the occasion and makes a good impression? But wearing a suit for example would be overkill. On a day to day, others seem to be wearing t shirts and hoodies but we do all work remotely. I suspect people will be wearing trainers/dressed down as opposed to smart though. Struggling with an outfit idea, suggestions appreciated.

The other thing is, I have an overdue hair appointment the week after the meeting. So I’m not sure how to make my hair look presentable on the day! I usually have a full head of highlights and I look particularly rooty as my darker natural colour has taken over and needs to be blended into my previous highlights. The roots are hard to hide.

It’s difficult when you don’t know whether the office is chilly or like a furnace isn’t it - I’d normally suggest wide leg trousers and a merino crew neck jumper in a flattering colour at this time of year, but if the heating is cranked up you might be too warm.

Oh, good point. It’s quite an old building and I assume probably runs cold as opposed to hot.

Wide leg trousers can be tricky as I need a short leg length!
