Ankle Boots

My favorite red suede lace up ankle boots have literally fallen apart. So I have an excuse to go shoe shopping.

I like to wear long skirts and short skirts with black tights, trousers if I must will be wide leg and bootcut jeans. I walk miles so prefer very comfy, flatter styles and with some water resistance if possible as I am often caught in a shower on the way too or from work. My last clothes purchases were Joe Browns, Hobbs, Fat face, Weird fish, White stuff and next if that helps on style. I am short, chubby and frumpy, I cannot carry off high fashion and I live rurally so less people to appreciate if if I did.

What are people wearing at the moment. Thanks

Well, even if you’re not keen on ‘high fashion’, red suede lace up boots sound the opposite of utilitarian.

So you may like

Penelope Chilvers

though I’d wait for a sale as they’re sometimes a little more expensive than competitors.

Alternatively:

Lanx

might appeal; they get good reviews from people who wear them.

I’m a fan of:

Grenson

whose footwear manages to be both hard wearing and stylish. (They have excellent sales, which I wish no one else knew about.)

Thank you. These are great looking expensive boots. But I probably should have put a budget. My favourite now broken booter were bought in a Clarks outlet store, on a buy one get one for £10 offer. So not necessarily an expensive or fashionable brand. I'd be happy to broaden my horizons, and increase my budget but maybe not by quite that much.

Do like the Penelope Chilvers Oscar Wool-Lined Chelsea Boot though.

What’s to stop you looking for those brands on Vinted?

Wouldn't have thought to, time poor. Would assume it's second hand and I don't do second hand shoes. But perhaps I should take a look. Thanks for the suggestion

I"d take a look at Ecco (lots of Chelsea boot styles and a couple of lace-ups that might appeal) and Hush Puppies (be wary of the filtering, which isn't very reliable - best just to skim quickly through the ankle boot category). I find the Hush Puppy styles more appealing in general, but I tend to wear technical footwear when conditions underfoot are bad, so my 'everyday' boots are a bit more fashiony and less practical.

Every time I look for a genuinely practical 'fashion' boot I land up thinking the options are so ugly I may as well just buy proper outdoor boots and have done, but perhaps you've got a better eye than me.

@PinkFootstool Tbh I'm really disappointed in Hush Puppies these days
That's a shame. Long time since I bought from them but I was very pleased with the shoes I got last time.

This thread prompted me to consider what I might actually be willing to spend money on this year, and although HP have a pair of Chelsea boots I like, what I'm closer to needing is something that would stand up better to sludge, Biblical rain and hippo-pleasing quantities of mud, yet not look totally out of place on the streets in more ordinary weather. I found an Ecco style I think I could live with... but of course it's sold out in my size in the only colour I like. Hey ho.
