Anyone know whence this dress came?

Bought many moons ago. The most incredibly flattering fit. Retailer label removed. I want to say it came from Wallis, but can't be sure. Even if I knew, probably no longer sold. Just thought I'd check with Mumsnet before I give up. It's knitted with fitted bodice and looser skirt.

Ann Summers.

I'm only commenting to endorse your use of "whence". (No picture is appearing for me - yet - otherwise I might attempt to be more helpful!)

hairbearbunches · 17/11/2025 15:20

Another one bigging up 'whence'. We should bring that word back, it's so lovely.

And, slight tangent, it also reminded me that a very sizeable number of British carol singers open their mouths and belt out 'Good King Wences last looked out...' 🙄😂

No idea on the dress, sorry. Have you tried google lens? a long shot but it might yield something.

schoolfriend · 17/11/2025 15:21

Also here for the use of the word whence 👌

I used to work for Wallis (albeit a while ago) and that’s not a Wallis product code.

MinglyMadly · 17/11/2025 15:28

Yes loved the word 'whence' too but at risk of being pedantic shouldn't it be 'from whence' .

Slothey · 17/11/2025 15:28

I’ve got a similar one from French Connection, maybe 15 years old?

LilyGeorge · 17/11/2025 15:30

it does have a vaguely Boden look.

My other thought was Principles?

No. Whence means from.

GovernmentFundedSteak · 17/11/2025 15:33

Google lens told me it's a black top made of cotton and polyamide. Really helpful!

Redhairandhottubs · 17/11/2025 15:35

It looks very similar to one I used to have that I think may have been from George at Asda or TU, possibly. I’m not sure though, that style was around a lot a few years back.

Hoolahoophop · 17/11/2025 15:36

I bought one similar on vitnted that was monsoon. Though it may have a more ribbed skirt thinking about it.

purplecorkheart · 17/11/2025 15:38

I had similar from Laura Ashley but that was many many years ago.

Tiredofwhataboutery · 17/11/2025 15:38

I’m another that bought a v. Similar one on monsoon. It is really flattering.

PandoraSocks · 17/11/2025 15:40

I agree Monsoon.

illsendansostotheworld · 17/11/2025 15:43

No. Whence means from.

Specifically, from where. Hence, whence.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 17/11/2025 15:44

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
Maybe Kate Bush knows? 🤔

I have a very similar looking one which is a few years old from FatFace

BlueBarnOwl · 17/11/2025 15:46

They used to be called tunics. Now they are called jumper dresses.
