I fancy a change. I’ve recently stopped doing highlights (high lifts - no bleach) and started box dye for obvious cost reasons - except i really dont like it and miss my highlights!
also i would like a shorter haircut.
Do you think that with my hair i could achieve this hairstyle? i can show a picture to my hairdresser but what would you call that style? Messy midi-bob?
What kind of product do you think she uses to achieve that texture? (Same person but two different IG reels/different day/lighting)
and how much styling would it requires on a day to day basis to have something decent?
at the moment i just tie my hair quite often but i wont be able to do that with a shorter cut.
ps: im happy to get high lifts highlights again.
TIA

I would call it a short Alexa Chung?? Would look great! I know she styles it round her face by putting her hair behind her ears when damp which seems pretty easy! And the rest you could do with straighteners.

SkaneTos · 16/11/2025 16:09

It's a great look! I think you can achieve it.

KnickerlessParsons · 16/11/2025 16:12

I think I’d call it a “messy bob with no layers”. Should be easy to achieve from your current starting point.

babylone · 16/11/2025 16:19

thanks all - do i need a hair curler ? It looks like thats what she has done? If so any recommendations? Or just some kind of curling mousse?
and i agree i dont think she has layers, just a very straight bob

Do you think the back is a bit shorter than the front?

alloutofcareunits · 16/11/2025 16:26

That kind of wave is usually done with hair straighteners, it’s similar to mine. Ask your hairdresser to show you how to do it, mine takes about 5-10 mins to do with a quick refresh in the morning.

what happens if you just leave your hair to dry by itself? Mine dries like those photos, and my hairstyle is similar. But if your hair dries straight you’d need to style itv somehow. Perhaps just drying it in plaits would do the trick. Dies your hair hold a curl?.

Londontown12 · 16/11/2025 16:33

It's a box bob ! And curled with straighteners then combed through with wide tooth comb and fingers after using a texture spray I have this style (I'm a hairstylist ) it's very easy ! Next day texture spray brush

babylone · 16/11/2025 17:51

@Londontown12 thanks! Do you mind sharing what kind of texture spray i can use? And what kind of hair straighteners (i have t got any!) many thanks

No box bob is blunt cut all round one length cut ,! I use joico body shake texture spray and I use cloud nine straighteners because u want them on the lowest heat u can get away with ! Or morrocon oil texture spray but this can b drying hope this helps x

babylone · 16/11/2025 18:09

OP, apologies for highjacking your thread a bit but I was just about to post the exact same question so I hope you’ll forgive me!

@Londontown12 Would you say that this style woujd require blow drying before doing the waves with straighteners first? I usually let my hair air dry as I try to minimise using heat on it but suspect it might not look as nice.

I blow-dry mine only because a good blow-dry will make the hair do last a lot longer so not as many hair washes if that makes sense ? I only wash mine twice a week ! I also have fine hair so mine doesn't dry good naturally ! Also not sure if u know but sometimes letting the hair dry naturally isn't always better for the hair because the moisture can weigh heavy and hair can actually snap.
Its probs best to dry in a low heat and make sure u don't have nozzle to close thlo the hair even blast drying is better than leaving it xx x

Lovelynames123 · 16/11/2025 19:30

@babylone for years I thought my hair dried straight, I always brushed it wet and it dried almost straight, just a quick finish with straighteners needed. Now I brush before washing, scrunch in some curl cream and left to dry naturally it comes out wavy. Might just be age though rather than method 😂

babylone · 16/11/2025 22:09

@Lovelynames123 TBH i have never tried a curl cream but i can borrow some from my teenage boys i suppose and try. Thanks for the tip.
@wordywitch no problem ! 😊

Thanks for starting this thread @babylone !
ive just cupped my hair and had exactly the same question about how to achieve that look

i don’t want you to regret being so generous with your advice @Londontown12 but can I ask 2 dumb questions? Would you recommend the contour or the original cloud 9s? And do you dry then use the cloud 9s and then use texturising spray? I have really fine hair and any curl falls out so quickly even though my hair now is just below my chin

I dont mind if it can help no need to gate keep I dry hair straight then use the original cloud nines on a low temp u will know if it's to low u won't get a decent curl ! Then when u have curl everything spray with texture spray and let it dry and cool down then comb through x

Fluffywithteeth · 17/11/2025 09:11

You are a star 🌟 thanks @Londontown12 🙏🏼

AltitudeCheck · 17/11/2025 09:12

I have a slight wave to my hair. Scrunching and air drying with a curl cream or using Merwaves spray on dry hair and twirling into sections and scrunching would leave mine looking like this.

PInkyStarfish · 17/11/2025 09:17

What about something like this but a bit longer

Debating whether to buy the cloud nine hair straightener or the Tymo curler. I dont have masses of time to do my hair and the tymo is cheaper and easier (and can go as low as 160c) anyone has any opinion?
if i let my hair dry naturally they are all frizzy and vaguely wavy, even with some curl cream
