Theatre Date Outfit

Hi Ladies Who Actually Know About This Stuff

I'd really appreciate a whole outfit idea for a winter theatre date with my husband. I'm 45, 14 top 16 bottom.

I'd like a warm formal coat, preferably not low cut, a nice top or top with something else over it (perhaps with a jaunty silky type scarf in the middle), and a trousers, preferably bell bottoms or flared and high rise and wide leg (not because I want it baggy but because I'm pear shaped).

I can leave out the trousers if I run out of budget. Budget of £250 but that's my max. Would much prefer to spend less. Maybe plum colours or something with a bit of colour - jolly but sophisticated. If on Next that'd be great as I've free delivery. Thank you!

Are you wanting a new outfit because you want a new outfit or because you think you need to dress up for theatre?

because really you can go in anything…..

I have to say it seems a little contradictory to start a thread asking for ideas and then detail the exact outfit you want, right down to the jaunty silky type scarf.

I don’t think it encourages responses …

I suggest you go to John Lewis and have a personal shopper. But I’m not sure why you need a complete new outfit to go to the theatre with your husband. Will he even notice? Mine wouldn’t.

My visits to theatres always seem to involve sitting in a cramped seat designed for a little person with my coat folded on my lap. Ps they may not let you in if you don't have trousers on 😂😂

You don’t need a whole new outfit for the theatre. It’ll be a bit cramped and too hot anyway. Are you going somewhere after?

New outfit because I don't have anything suitable for any date with my husband. I just have all casual clothes.

Oh, thanks for that tip. I thought it would make people think 'Oh yeah, I saw something like that. I'll send her the link'. I'm open to anything that wouldn't be too chilly and would be ok for my age, thanks.

Mmm … No. Detailing an exact outfit (particularly if it sounds a little dated) suggests to readers that you’re only prepared to wear the same outfit you wore the last time you went out - in 1985. In other words, that you’re not actually interested in fashionable clothes and will be resistant to all suggestions.

A strong preference for Next isn’t terribly encouraging, either. But I should imagine anything an adult woman might wear to the theatre would be suitable for your age.

OP, there’s nothing wrong with the request: wide leg trousers are very in atm, a top with a frilly type neck, a coat. Next has all sorts of brands. And the budget is ok too. I don’t think you need to dress up for the theatre nowadays, but if you really only have super casual clothes, then this is a good occasion to get a few items.
