Christmas party dress - is this a mess of a dress?

I haven't been to a Christmas party in 7 years due to illness/childcare/covid, and I just do not know what im meant to wear.

Going for a team meal and drinks. Im 33, size 12/14 and i cannot find ANYTHING in the shops but I've had this at the back of my wardrobe with the tags still on - is this horrifically out of style? How would you wear it? My first instinct is black teddy coat, black tights and heeled Doc marten boots - ugh help!

Pressed send too quickly... think this sounds nice, will depend on your colouring obviously

Definitely not out of style. I’ve seen dresses for sale now the same style. Love the idea of black tights and heeled boots.

Really nice! There seem to be lots of dark green velvet party dresses this season so right on trend too!

Crunched · 11/11/2025 23:06

The full sleeve seems very current.

It's lovely!

I have absolutely no clue whether its current fashion or not, but to me, it looks incredibly short in the pic. I can't imagine bending to pick something up without knickers showing. I appreciate the pics aren't you and it might look great, but on me, I'd wear thick tights and some short, shorts underneath?

I think it’s perfect! I am 36 and this is the sort of stuff I wear at Christmas…red and green in velvet or glitter. You’ll look lovely!

CharlotteCChapel · 12/11/2025 12:10

Itvlooks very up to date. I have stuff in my wardrobe that started out in fashion, wentboutnof fashion and now its back in fashion

BillieWiper · 12/11/2025 12:15

I think it's lovely in shape but the fabric would need to be really sturdy and good quality to stop it looking flimsy. It's pretty short on the model so may be shorter on a curvier/wider frame. Which is cool if you like that look.

Also those sleeves are really annoying when eating and drinking as they drop back but flap at the same time and can't easily be rolled back. I have a dress very similar.

It's good but maybe not 100%.

Personally?
I LOVE that dress!!
Granted I know nothing about style/fashion/trends but I think it's wonderful!
