Can anyone suggest a really nice perfume? Or a few? I have been wearing Princess by Vera Wang for the last 12 months and really want a new fragrance?

P.s - I can still wear perfume, right? I'm such a clueless first timer haha

what do you mean can you still use perfume? do you mean in pregnancy? that is fine afaik
but I did not wear any sort of scent after the baby was born and for quite a while afterwards

I like Miller Harris and Annick Goutal they have loads and am sure you would find something nice there

but also quite like Very Irresistible by Givenchy

Carmenere · 07/06/2008 11:46

I love Orange Vert by Hermes but it is quite individual.

ComeOVeneer · 07/06/2008 11:48

I love Happy by clinique for day time. I also love L'eau D'Issey by Issey Miyake (and the summer version). I have just got Romance by Ralph Lauren which is also lovely.

maidamess · 07/06/2008 11:49

I wear Stella Mccartney in Winter and CK One in Summer.

I am a ponce with my seasonal fragrances.

leesmum · 07/06/2008 11:51

Romance by Ralph Lauren is very fresh smelling. And Cool Waters is nice for everyday use.

kittywise · 07/06/2008 11:52

Creed "virgin Island water" is to die fir.

Actually most Creed is divine but very expensive.

You CAN tell the difference in the quality of scent though, nothing synthetic or nasty, well worth it.

ninedragons · 07/06/2008 14:13

I have never worn anything else since I found Un Jardin Sur Le Nil (ponciest name ever?) by Hermes. Very subtle, but everyone wants to stand next to you and inhale deeply.

donnie · 07/06/2008 14:18

I only wear 'first' by van Cleef and Arpels, or Chanel no 5. The former is very expensive but fabulous and dead classy.

DazedEmma · 07/06/2008 17:28

I like this one called Clean. It's supposed to smell like you've just stepped out of the shower but I haven't been able to find it anywhere else. (I only ever saw it in a department store in Edinburgh)...

anyone any idea what am on about? ha

Noir De Feu by Amelie et Melanie

edible!!

don't laugh but I tried the Bronley Almond and Apricot one in a store, it was really fresh.

Mavornia · 07/06/2008 19:43

I think you have to be very careful with the current crop of department store offerings if you don't want to smell like (a) a 13 year old or (b) a hooker's handbag

Having said that, I think Vera Wang's Truly Pink is lovely. It's a beautiful rose scent. I think it's hard to capture the scent of roses well, often the scent is too cloying or too old-ladyish but this is fresh and perfect. You might like it if you also like Princess

For a sultry summer evening, I'd recommend Maitresse by Agent Provocateur. It smells of white flowers with the warmth of amber. This is one that you have to give a second chance - on first application I thought it was awful but after 15 minutes or so the dry down was beautiful and I couldn't stop sniffing my wrist. Warm and seductive but light enough for summer.

Some of the Hermes perfumes are lovely. Orange Vert is very nice but an acquired taste as said above and I do agree that Un Jardin Sur le Nil is lovely. I think it has tones of melon and maybe apricot but it's not overtly fruity.

Can you give us more of an idea of your tastes? Do ou like florals? Citrus scents? Fresh oceanic fragrances? Might be easier then to suggest things you might like.

brimfull · 07/06/2008 19:46

I smelt the new chloe scent and it's gorgeous.

I like chanel no 5 ,prada and miss dior ones

Mavornia · 07/06/2008 19:46

Forgot to say, I' very fond of Philosophy's Pure Grace for days when I don't want an obvious perfume but still want something clean and fresh

There are several Grace scents but this is my favourite - it reminds you of fresh laundry, a crisp white t-shirt etc

great when you're pregnant and might be feeling nauseous or if you are going to be around the elderly or young children and don't want anything overpowering

Blondilocks · 07/06/2008 19:48

I love Armani Code or Boss Deep Red.

I like Vera Wang princess too but don't really need to buy any more at the moment.

GreenElizabeth · 07/06/2008 21:54

I always go back to the original ckone. Nobody wears it now. It really is so fresh.

I used to always wear Eau de Givenchy, the most gorgeous smell on EARTH and it was discontinued.

I like clinique Happy, Estee Lauder's Pleasures (the normal one)

Gucci Envy and 'Stella' are lovely too.

And cheaper scents, I love one called Inis, and The body shop's water lily.

During the day I would wear ck one or Inis. I hate anything Sweet or 'sexy'.

Sparkletastic · 07/06/2008 21:57

Has anyone tried any of those Marc Jacobs 'Splash' scents? I think there's a basil one, a pink grapefruit and a pear version. Sound delish but have never seen any testers and don't know anyone who has one....

GreenElizabeth · 07/06/2008 22:00

Pear is a lovely scent. Even Next did a pear scent last christmas and it was lovely.

Grapefruit would be lovely for the day. Very crisp and clean.

Sparkletastic · 07/06/2008 22:02

Am actually seriously pondering the basil one. I love Jo Malone's 'Lime, Basil and Mandarin' but we are currently too poor to indulge my desire for top notch niffs

expatinscotland · 07/06/2008 22:03

Right now I'm using Victoria's Secret Pear Glace or Clarins Eau Ensoleillante.

expatinscotland · 07/06/2008 22:03

DH is using Arran Aromatics Bay Citrus stuff for blokes.

ScottishMummy · 07/06/2008 22:03

stella good all rounder
issey miyake - great for day time

kenzo flower

i love perfume!

MissingMyHeels · 07/06/2008 22:04

I used to be a Vera Wang Princess wearer and now I am on to Marc Jacobs - Daisy, it's a lovely scent.
