Can anyone suggest a really nice perfume? Or a few? I have been wearing Princess by Vera Wang for the last 12 months and really want a new fragrance?

P.s - I can still wear perfume, right? I'm such a clueless first timer haha

oh testers Nice!

MrsMuddle · 08/06/2008 22:17

Sparkletastic, I'm using Marc Jacobs Basil, and it's divine. It comes in a big bottle, with a separate smaller one and a funnel to decant and a screw-on spray top. Great fun!

It's a lovely light smell, but not terribly long lasting.

ShinyPinkShoes · 08/06/2008 22:18

I adore 'Ghost'- the original one

ScottishMummy · 08/06/2008 22:51

shame there is not scratch & sniff on MN - this would be gorgeous

ComeOVeneer · 08/06/2008 22:54

I tried lovely by SJP but after about 10 mins it smelt like the kind of soap my granmother used to smell of!

ScottishMummy · 08/06/2008 22:56

"lovely" and SJP is an oxymoron to me

GreenElizabeth · 08/06/2008 23:35

My x gave me that lovely and it was disgusting. Not just, 'not to my taste' but it was actually really horrible. It smelt like chemicals. I sniffed a different one in Boots because I couldn't believe it was supposed to be that awful. It was also vile.

Really baffling how she came up with that and thought, hmm!!

harpomarx · 08/06/2008 23:40

I want to suggest my perfume, but I can't, 'cos it's mine!

doesn't anyone else feel all possessive about their perfume?

I wear the same one as my mum and it's quite unusual. I once nearly stalked followed someone in the street because they were wearing 'our' perfume.

GreenElizabeth · 08/06/2008 23:41

It must be something posh like Patou or a guerlain one......

harpomarx · 08/06/2008 23:43

ooh, you're right, greenelizabeth!

are you a perfume expert?

wrinklytum · 08/06/2008 23:46

Am no perfume expert but I love my Chanel Allure.

Ilovebunting · 09/06/2008 00:10

Where do you go to try the more exotic perfumes? Boots, john lewis etc stock some, but where do you go to find a more off the beaten track one? I am a perfume novice too!!

harpomarx · 09/06/2008 00:13

Big city department stores, bunting.

Ilovebunting · 09/06/2008 00:15

I am a country bumpkin I know

PeedOffandPg · 09/06/2008 00:16

ILB - L'Artisan Perfumer, Diptyque, Space Nk all good.

I loved Aveda Chakras - till they discontinued them

I like Prescriptives Calyx

Eau Dynamisante by Clarins

Escentric Molecule is quite radical but I like it.

harpomarx · 09/06/2008 00:16

so am I these days, bunting, I live off my memories!

PeedOffandPg · 09/06/2008 00:18

harpo - it wasnt that range that had scents like "grass" and "dirt" was it??? Frasers in Edinburgh used to sell it IIRC

harpomarx · 09/06/2008 00:21

no, it wasn't, peedoff

and you won't get me to tell... Greenelizabeth was on the right lines though

expatinscotland · 09/06/2008 00:23

i like Chanel Chance in summer.

PeedOffandPg · 09/06/2008 01:29

Demeter - that's the range I was thinking of. Just googled.

YeahBut · 09/06/2008 08:55

I wear Coco by Chanel and love it. Always makes me feel elegant. Strange how scent can affect mood, isn't it?

Oh GreenElizabeth - I miss Eau de Givenchy as well - bought up some old stock from E-bay when it was discontinued but all gone now therefore taking notes from this thread

Marc Jacobs cucumber splash is lovely btw(bought it for my sister)

Sparkletastic · 09/06/2008 20:10

Oh thanks MrsMuddle (if you ever read this!)- v useful info on Marc Jacobs. I think I will treat myself to the Basil Splash as soon as budget allows . Feared it wouldn't be that long-lasting though - that's one of the things that makes Jo Malone stuff worth it IMO. I have Daisy by Marc Jacobs too - lovely but needs top up in afternoon. My Jo Malones currently in use are Blue Agave and Cacao and Pomegranate Noire but I always have a bottle of Armani She / Lui / Her wotsit on the go too as it strangely reminds me of Body Shop White Musk but more grown-up. Azuree Soleil (Tom Ford for Estee Lauder) is my holiday scent - lushy coconut / suntan lotion / tropical flowers type vibe....
