Granny nighties

WhatIfWhatIf · 08/11/2025 22:01

Not sure I'm putting this in the right place as clearly granny nighties are not renowned for being either stylish or beautiful but it is shopping related so maybe someone will be able to help me!

My poor mum is currently in hospital and is therefore spending a lot of time in nighties. I would like to get her some new ones but can't seem to find any suitable ones anywhere.

My list of requirements is not long, I was hoping for below the knee, short sleeves (but not sleeveless), no low neckline and ideally cotton.

Any ideas of where to look?

I found a couple of long nighties in matalan. I just bought a couple for a hospital stay coming up. They are currently in the sale, if you are quick!

Timeforabitofpeace · 08/11/2025 22:07

John Lewis or Cyberjammies for good nightdresses.

USaYwHatNow · 08/11/2025 22:08

We swear by M&S for my auntie

WhatIfWhatIf · 08/11/2025 22:09

Thanks all, will go and take a look.

agentlebreeze · 08/11/2025 23:59

T K Maxx might be worth a look.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 09/11/2025 00:03

M&S or Bonne Marche

DrUptonsGardenGnome · 09/11/2025 00:12

Slenderella will have a lot of what you’re looking for.

fourelementary · 09/11/2025 00:16

@WhatIfWhatIf i hope your mum is on the road to recovery. Can I just gently suggest you don’t go for cotton with no stretch as getting this on and off is tricky for her/nursing staff with no give in the sleeves or necks of cotton- stretchy and a size up would be better for ease of dressing and undressing if she is bed ridden or less mobile.

PotatoesAreLife · 09/11/2025 00:18

What about an oodie sleep tee? Softer than soft, stretchy and long, but not granny like, but so so soft and easy to clean for hospital.

Headstarttohappiness · 09/11/2025 00:23

Just make sure it doesn’t have lovely anglaise style cut out styling at the top. Mine did.
I recall noticing with horror (after one morning ward round) that one of my nipples was protruding from one of the gaps.

OSTMusTisNT · 09/11/2025 00:25

When my Mum was in hospital I bought a big supply of T-Shirt type nighties in BonMarche.

If you mean proper old fashioned white lacy nighties (MIL ones) I found them pretty much impossible to buy and ended up with PJ's as MIL kept flashing her bits due to dementia.

OctopusHands · 09/11/2025 06:17

My mum loves lands end nightdresses. There is always a code somewhere too.

Ygfrhj · 09/11/2025 06:19

Our local market always has tons of these. I think they are coming into fashion so your mum may be ahead of the trend!

RosesAndHellebores · 09/11/2025 06:21

M&S has barely a cotton nightie this year. The only ones I've seen are short. I've been looking for mother and MIL. On-line the M&S Cyberjammies ones are good but expensive imo for hospital.

FourFiveEightNine · 09/11/2025 06:32

If I were in hospital I would hope someone would bring me this:

Toast flannel nightshirt

They also have others with shorter sleeves.

RosesAndHellebores · 09/11/2025 07:13

@FourFiveEightNine Shock. Mother's 89 and she keeps her oldest nightie, dressing gown and slippers fo potential hospital stays. On the basis they can go straight in the hospital bin.

FourFiveEightNine · 09/11/2025 07:47

In that case, @RosesAndHellebores, as the OP’s mother is in need of new nightwear, I’d imagine

Primark

would be the best place to look. I’ve always been able to find good looking nightwear there, not long lasting, but cheap enough to go ‘straight in the bin’ afterwards.

(My own nonagenarian DM has a store of well-worn Toast, and similar stuff, ready to be packed if and when necessary.)

M&S
When my DM was in hospital (sadly now passed) I looked all over for nighties.
Bought some from M&S, short sleeve, calf length, thin, soft t-shirt maternal.
I was in there last week and saw some.
