Granny nighties

WhatIfWhatIf · 08/11/2025 22:01

Not sure I'm putting this in the right place as clearly granny nighties are not renowned for being either stylish or beautiful but it is shopping related so maybe someone will be able to help me!

My poor mum is currently in hospital and is therefore spending a lot of time in nighties. I would like to get her some new ones but can't seem to find any suitable ones anywhere.

My list of requirements is not long, I was hoping for below the knee, short sleeves (but not sleeveless), no low neckline and ideally cotton.

Any ideas of where to look?

I was in hospital a coupler of years ago for a hysterectomy and needed a nightie rather than pyjamas as I was catheterised for the first few hours. I had a total nightmare finding something which was cotton and not white! Didn't want to spend a lot on something I wouldn't use again.

Eventually ended up buying an oversized nightshirt t-shirt style rather than a nightie.

Lands End for comfort and warmth without the Mrs Brady, old lady vibe.

Land’s End

goody2shooz · 09/11/2025 10:49

@WhatIfWhatIf have you looked at Lands end? They do long ones with long or short sleeves in a very nice pima cotton. Plain or patterned, no buttons, just pull on.

EBearhug · 09/11/2025 10:56

Patra Silk (it's not all silk.)

Lands end. I’m a lot younger than your mother but I like to sleep in long cotton nighties year round and the Pima cotton ones are all I wear.

CharlotteCChapel · 09/11/2025 13:44

I bought this one for hospital, the pattern made me happy

What about an oodie sleep tee? Softer than soft, stretchy and long, but not granny like, but so so soft and easy to clean for hospital.

Was going to suggest one of these too. I only wear Oodie nightwear now.
Can be expensive but there’s often discounts.

GentleGoldFish · 09/11/2025 14:52

Lands End. Beautiful supima cotton and they last years.

Olivebranch123 · 09/11/2025 14:58

Local market, they do the old lady pants and vests too

Greenscheesecake · 09/11/2025 15:23

I’m in my sixties and wouldn’t dream of wearing something like this. I hope I never do!

UpMyself · 09/11/2025 15:29

@Greenscheesecake , we're not looking for something for you. We're looking for a nightdress below the knee, short sleeves (but not sleeveless), no low neckline and ideally cotton. for OP's mother who is in hospital.

OP's mother might be 92 or 46. We don't know her age.

komtalsheteinde · 09/11/2025 15:52

I have a few of these cotton ones and they are v good quality and v comfy

Im almost 60 and have always worn such nighties. I'm confident in myself and don't give a crap what people think of my nightwear. I can honestly say that no-one has ever mentioned it and why would they?

UpMyself · 09/11/2025 16:48

@Greenscheesecake I was looking for a username likely to still be available. It's amazing how the responses vary to the various usernames I've used.
One looked slightly masculine and the bile that generated was astonishing.

Whats that supposed to mean? Who cares what you would or wouldnt wear, this isnt about you. Lots of people like nightdresses like that because guess what, people like and need different things

Jesus.

Another vote for Land’s End. For @Greenscheesecake a Yves Delorme or Liberty robe.

Same here. They’re very comfortable. Though if your dm’s in hospital, won’t she need something that allows easier access to bits of her body?
