I got really excited about buying their foundation and it was awful.
It made my skin look like a dried up prune.

Much prefer Chanel Vitalumiere.

moodlumthehoodlum · 07/06/2008 08:47

i've always just assumed it was me being useless with applying foundation, but obviously not, the Laura Mercier stuff is awful. i don't see what the excitement is about any of their stuff tbh.

but then I also got conned into buying chanel pro lumiere which is equally crap.

Pro Lumiere?

Is that for the more mature skin?

moodlumthehoodlum · 07/06/2008 08:51

it is crap. i'm not oily and i'm not sure why i got sold that one and not the vitalumiere which is what I actually asked for . its like applying polyfilla. better now i mix it with moisturiser and then apply but that misses the point a bit I think.

moodlumthehoodlum · 07/06/2008 08:52

It is for those with the skin of crocodiles

Nbg · 07/06/2008 08:53

expatinscotland-they have just started selling Eve Lom on QVC. At least you could try it and if you don't like it you just send it back used for a refund within 30 days. I've done it with other products loads of times.

beeny · 07/06/2008 16:13

Barbara daly concealer mac foundation best combination so far

moodlumthehoodlum · 07/06/2008 16:45

Cod am going to this very next weekend. And not leave until I get a new free different foundation.

cornsilk · 07/06/2008 16:52

I like laura mercier tinted moisturiser but might try something else next time.
I also love eve lom cleanser. Haven't seen them on QVC yet though. You can buy an eve lom starter kit thing for about £20 I think from Space NK that has a small pot of the cleanser in it. The pot for £40 lasts me ages. I think it's fab.

PeedOffandPg · 07/06/2008 16:58

I tried Chantecaille Real Skin and it made my skin itchy - fortunately I didnt buy it.

Best eyeliner is Clinique - water resistant so doesnt slide off your face and has a smudger as well.

talilac · 07/06/2008 17:13

I like LM undereye concealer, the little pots last for aaages. The brush is a faff though.

ladymac · 07/06/2008 17:13

I love the tinted moisturiser and the primer.

Expat, bad news I'm afraid. Just Lips, my favourite lipstick ever, has been 'retired'. I tried to buy some last week.

Liz Earle cleanser is good substitute for Eve Lom and is a quarter of the price. I'm using lots of her skincare at the mo and am really pleased with how my skin is looking.

brimfull · 07/06/2008 18:18

cod-sorry I didn't answer,went to bed as on nights

yes I have tried using wet eyeshadow but I don't find it as good as Christian Dior pencils.I have had these two CD liners for yrs and yrs so don't know if they're still as good

agree about chanel foundation, other one I really rate is bobbi brown foundation stick, much better than any of her other foundations, great coverage and covers bags as well.

voila!

expatinscotland · 07/06/2008 18:25

Just Lips is gone!

Shit.

I'm really never buying LM stuff again!

I do think the makeup products are better suited to people with oily or combination skin.

I can't use a lot of products, like Chanel Vitalumiere, because they don't suit combination skin.

2loudboys · 07/06/2008 21:05

Chanel, Bobbi Brown & Mac foundation/tinted moisturizers all bring me out in lumps (nice!!). Mercier is 'meh' and pricey. Best to date for me are Boots new Tinted Moisturizer, Benefit You Rebel (lighter colour) and Dr. Hauschka foundation (frumpy packaging, but just close your eyes and pretend).

expatinscotland · 07/06/2008 21:08

2Boys is that the No. 7 tinted moisturiser?

Like you, a lot of stuff breaks me out in lumps, too.

2loudboys · 07/06/2008 21:14

Yes Expat, the No. 7 Tinted Moisturizer - in black tubey thing - lovely stuff & no lumps!!

expatinscotland · 07/06/2008 21:19

i saw it the other day, but couldn't figure out what shade to get.

i have fair skin, but it is yellow/olive in undertone so a lot of stuff that isn't designed specifically for such skin looks awful on me.

cornsilk · 07/06/2008 21:21

Have you been into somewhere like Space NK where they have lots of different brands to ask for advice? My sister took her daughter in and she said they were fab and recommended something just perfect for her skin type.

2loudboys · 07/06/2008 21:23

Just ask the girl behind the counter to put a stripe of each on your jawline and go away for 30 mins - the right one should look invisible. I practically did my whole face before I bought one (all in the interests of checking for lumps you understand ).

expatinscotland · 07/06/2008 21:24

No, I've not been in a place like that because they always recommend a whole lot of products and I honestly don't have all that money to spend on products.

I don't really like to deal with the whole salespeople aspect of it.

So I just try stuff from Boots and even if it's not ideal I use it till it runs out.

I used to use LM stuff pre-kids, and my sister sends me Benefit stuff.

expatinscotland · 07/06/2008 21:25

I'll do that, 2boys.

Cool.
