Buy Love & Roses Black Star Button Through Long Sleeve Shirt from the Next UK online shop https://share.google/1MLFC5F7eqlggppGn

I'm not keen on bootcut jeans. How would you wear this shirt?

Trousers (what type? Tucked in or not?
Skirt (length and style)?

I bought it because I like the pattern but didn't think through how to actually wear it.

Is there still time to send it back?

upsofloating · 05/11/2025 15:20

Why say that, Perfidia?

Perfidia · 05/11/2025 15:28

Long experience has taught me that liking a print doesn’t mean you have to wear it on your body. It’s not a good or sufficient reason for buying an item of clothing.

As the OP has found to her cost, you mainly need to buy clothes that contribute to building your wardrobe.

NormaMajors1992coat · 05/11/2025 16:07

It’s a lovely shirt - it’s not that out there imo, I would wear it with jeans or black trousers, tucked in or out depending on their shape. I really like it!

(I think the skirt suggestion is good too although I don’t wear skirts much myself.)

I don't want to send (or take it back, I bought it in store)

How about this skirt from M&S? The style of the skirt will 'subdue' the boldness of the print. I like the shirt, OP.

I like this skirt. Thanks.

You can wear it with straight leg black trousers and do a loose front tuck so it sits neatly. Add ankle boots.
Or try a simple midi skirt in black, not too flared, so the print stays the focus.

I was going to say with a long skirt, the M&S one is perfect.
Also it could look good untucked over a black corduroy mini skirt with black tights and boots with a chunky knit cardigan, H&M have got some nice skirts in at the moment.

Mizztikle · 05/11/2025 16:23

nice black leather skirt with boots or slim fit tailored trouser, tucked for both or french tuck with the trouser.
Accessories minimal as the shirt is already busy.

Lollipop2025 · 05/11/2025 18:18

Dark bootcut jeans with a pointy black boot

HelenSkeleton · 05/11/2025 21:32

Yes I really like this!

This skirt and white trainers for a day time
smart-ish look:

These would be lovely for a more relaxed look: www.hush-uk.com/taylor-wide-leg-trouser-teal-green/014347-2009.html

A simple cropped black trouser or black denim jeans - hard to say which cut without knowing body type. Barrel leg is very popular now but doesn't suit everyone

Westmin · 05/11/2025 23:58

Midi, narrow A-line plain black skirt, sleek boot, not too clumpy. Minimal hair and jewellery (I'd opt for sleek, off the face hair and no jewellery).

I would definitely go for tucked, to give the bold patterning some structure. Leaving it loose will detract from the shape of the sleeves, neckline and cuffs, imo.

MrsSkylerWhite · 06/11/2025 00:00

Mid-length black A line skirt.

Olivebranch123 · 06/11/2025 01:04

I absolutely adore the shirt. If I was young and slim,I'd probably wear it with front pocket 70s style jeans or a dark denim skirt

KittyMacNitty · 06/11/2025 09:54

Its breaking the basic rule of not combining black with bright colors like pink and green - that's kind of a written rule of fashion isn't it?

You risk looking like an older lady at a funeral, trying to "brighten things up"

Is it more acceptable for younger ladies to "brighten things up" by wearing exuberant colours?

Heh, @KittyMacNitty, then you'd better stop stereotyping older women, you nearly are one!
