Starting a new job in London. Need a smart rucksack, as plan to walk quite a bit. Needs to hold laptop and a pair of shoes! Any recommendations? Currently have a Knomo but fancy a change!

After a lot of searching for a nice rucksack that was like a handbag I gave up. All the leather ones are so heavy before you put anything into them and never have room for a travel flask which means you risk a flask or bottle leaking onto your laptop or phone.

I found nordace and travel ones like Samsonite the best in terms of nicer brands but ended up with a £30 'loveook' one from Amazon which is brilliant, has tons of pockets looks smart enough, has drinks holders, lightweight and has wide straps rather than digging in dainty ones. I put a badge over the name!

I’ve had a Mia Tui Sydney for a couple of years and have been really pleased with it. It’s not showing many signs of wear yet but when it comes to replacing it, I’ll be getting another.

I have a sandqvist vag. It's really strong. Lots yo choose from.

Rains?

it’s more hipster dad than catwalk stylish but I have a Stubble & Co roll top, they’re waterproof which has saved my laptop on a number of occasions!

I got a nice smart black leather rucksack from Autograph at M&S last winter. I think it was officially a men’s rucksack but it’s really smart and would fit your bill. I’ve taken it for a weekend away before though it only looks small on the outside. I’m not sure if they still have them though.

  • Nomatic Travel Pack: really flexible, tech-rich, good for commute + travel.
  • BANGE Multifunction Anti‑Theft Backpack with Shoe Compartment: specifically mentions a shoe compartment — ideal for your need.
  • Aer City Pack Pro 2: premium look, well rated for commuting with laptop + gear.
  • Nordace Siena Smart Backpack: smart layout, good for work-smart casual.
  • Explorer Deluxe Premium Leather Rucksack: if you want something more classy/leather for the office.
  • Knomo Beaufort Laptop Backpack: close to your current brand, good fallback.
  • BAGSMART Blast Travel Backpack: more budget friendly but still decent space.
  • Skyborne SmartPack PRO: high luxury and tech features if you’re ready to invest.

I'm also currently looking. I'm pretty much settled on Hershel Pop Quiz Backpack (Navy) but not sure what to do about shoes? Separate inner bag in the Rucksack??
I previousy invested in a La Mansio. I think it's a great bag but maybe not for my first week in the office.
I was also looking at Nordace but why I circle back to Hershel is that if it gets dirty or has an inevitable spill, I can likely pop this in the wash. Though the La Mansio still looks in good knick.
Are you thinking of also taking a packed lunch?
I'm following this thread by the way.

Does anyone have a rucksack recommendation for people with big boobs? Sorry to gatecrash your thread OP, but I am searching for a laptop rucksack that works with my 34Gs... Every time I've tried one previously my boobs push the straps off the shoulders, or the straps lie very uncomfortably on them...

I've got a Madlug laptop bag I'm very happy with. Smart, practical (and they donate bags to young people in the care system).
