I'm looking for a red or burgundy version of a green velvet dress which I bought in Zara years ago. It's great for winter and Christmas events.

It has 3/4 length sleeves
Fitted at the waist
Full swing skirt
Pulls on over the head, no zips or buttons
V neck
Above the knee but slightly lower at the back

It's so easy to wear and COMFY, accentuates all the parts you want and looks great on.

I'm considering buying red velvet fabric and having a dupe made.

If anyone has seen anything similar please share 🙏

Thanks for the link, @Plump82 , that is a lovely dress too 😀 I'm definitely after a short, stretchy swing style with longer sleeves. It's been a hunt and a half for a similar dress.

Thanks @24Dogcuddler I found this on the other person's thread looking for a dress. It could be a contender. I love the Zara dress for it's simplicity but I do like this as well.

Does this work? On the Next website. I can’t do a link from the app sorry!

Yes @Clementine12 thanks I found this on the other thread, too. I've got it in the basket! Never bought from Yumi before.

Try Joanie, Boden, or Ghost — they often have vintage-style velvet swing dresses in red or burgundy. If you’re set on that Zara fit, having one made from velvet is a great idea — sounds like a perfect timeless piece.

Nutcrackerglasses · 06/11/2025 10:06

Thanks @ThatPinkShark Ghost was a good call, I always forget about them! They have a lot of velvet dresses. I think I might have to look for a tailor!

You'd need to get it taken up, but this one from Joanie is gorgeous:

I've looked at it so often the advert is following me around the internet 😂

Comefromaway · 06/11/2025 10:12

If it is any consolation I am after exactly the same style but in a knitted dress to replace a very cheap one from Sainsburys. I don;t even care what colour it is! Naby or burgundy prefereably.

Nutcrackerglasses · 06/11/2025 11:13

@LavenderBlue19 that is gorgeous, maybe it's a sign that it's following you around? 😊

@Comefromaway sometimes an item of clothing just stays with you, I hope you find a replacement.

The green zara dress is such a great fit on me and I've been a few different sizes before and after pregnancies yet it always looks and feels good. The simplicity of the cut, the elegance of the 3/4 sleeves, the fitted waist and swing of the skirt is 👌

Have you tried looking on Vinted? I recently did this looking for replacements for my favourite 30 year old dress that is starting to look a bit worn now and found 3 very similar ones (although they'll never be QUITE the same)

Comefromaway · 06/11/2025 11:58

Above the knee skater style is just a flattering shape on me (a short person)

Nutcrackerglasses · 06/11/2025 13:00

Yes @Whiskeyandkittens I had a look on vinted, I sell lots on there so always keep an eye out but nothing yet...

I found this Aspiga dress on the John Lewis site, it's quite similar but without the buttons, puff sleeves or the flared bits around the cuffs. Gorgeous colour but not a Zara budget!

Comefromaway · 06/11/2025 13:31

The Aspiga dress is way too long. It wold look frumpy on me. I'm not sure how tall OP is but above the knee has a totally different feel.

Nutcrackerglasses · 06/11/2025 13:39

It's the Elsie Apiga dress which is a couple of inches above the knee. I'm 5'8".

I attached the photo but I guess it takes a while to be approved.
