Levi’s Sizing

I’m a size 14 (I’ve lost a lot 4 stone so this I new territory

My true waist is 31 inches and my hips are 40 (high hip and full hip are the same due to apron belly)

I’m pretty much an hour glass and prefer high waist due to my lower tummy. I’m after some Levi’s but the sizing seems wild and since of it is dress size and some waist size.

can anyone help? I’m thinking skinny to wear with boots and big jumpers in the winter and rib cage?

I'm size 14, and got size 31 ribcage, they aren't that skinny though, more straight leg, I'm also 31 in the 501s, and 30 in the 501 90s style. My waist is 32, hips 40. I buy mine from Amazon as they are cheaper.

and well done on the weight loss.

Their sizing is all over the place and depends a lot on colour and style.

I'm also a 14 (80cm waist and 105cm hips) and have several pairs of Ribcage in size 32, bought pre weight loss. The blue ones are now huge on me, some more so than others. The white ones were too tight when the blue ones fit but are good now, though I could manage a size smaller. I don't have black but have been told they run very small.

My best guess is 30-31. Ribcage look best if they're pretty tight across the hips so maybe try 30 in blue or 31 in colours.

Thanks so much that is really helpful!

I meant skinny or ribcage @RedRiverShore5 sorry I was being confusing

The fabric is cut and measured before it’s dyed, which is why it varies so much. Black dye shrinks the fabric slightly whereas some washes relax the fabric or just stain it slightly.

The waist measurement is based on where it will sit - i.e. waist is not your actual smallest point/waist, if it is a low rise, it will be where low rise sits on your torso. If it is a high rise it’s more likely to sit on your actual waist.

I have their super skinnies, bootcuts, straight legs and flares - and I’m anywhere between a 26-29 w, though my actual waist is 29. It’s better to go in and get the right size for the style number, then you can shop in store and online.

Most of my jeans are Levi's as they just flatter my shape the most.

But, I never order online. I only ever buy in store as I have to try on everthing. I have pairs that are wildly different size wise, their skinny style run much smaller than ribcage for eg. I have pairs varying over 4 different sizes.

Exactly the same as my collection.
I have from size 26 to 29, and they all fit.

Spot on advice regarding where the waist sits re sizing.

RedRiverShore5 · 03/11/2025 06:25

I probably wouldn't get them from somewhere hard to return like Vinted as the sizes do vary a bit with styles. I get mine from Amazon or Next clearance as they are cheaper but the Levi shop may have Black Friday sales, so if you want to go there and try on it may be worth waiting for that

RedRiverShore5 · 03/11/2025 06:29

There are some Levi 501 size 32/30 on Next clearance for £27, so definitely worth looking there

moofolk · 03/11/2025 07:50

You’ve got to go into the shop and try some, their sizing is too unpredictable to buy online unless you know they’ll fit.

I'm a 8_10 and wear 501s the 31 waist is perfect. Tight on the bum waist. It seems wils that 14s can get in the same size

RedRiverShore5 · 03/11/2025 08:29

I went by the Levi's measurements chart and for size 12-14, sizes 30-32 waist were fairly correct for my measurements

am considering going back to 501s (even though i am fat now) bcause of the huge pockets. What is the difference between 501s and the 90s style?

501s are stiffer and tighter, the 501 90s are looser fit and more forgiving, I find the 90s ones are very flattering but did need a size smaller. I'm quite tall though, 5'10" so the sizing might fit me differently to a shorter person.

I treated myself to some Levi’s last month after losing ten stone. I am also a size 14. I have the ribcage straight jeans in a 31” waist, which I found was spot on based on my true waist measurement (measured at the narrowest part with a snug tape measure). They are so flattering and I love them. They have softened quite a bit with wear and they are a relaxed fit anyway so I could possibly have got away with the 30” but I bought them in the sale and it had sold out. I’ve just washed them for the first time so I don’t yet know if there has been any shrinkage.

They will probably feel a bit tighter after being washed, but they will relax out a bit again once you start move around.

Update - went to Levi’s at the outlet and they were super helpful.

I went for 721 high rise skinny

I needed the 30w and 28 leg- I’m 5”6 and have a very long body and short legs.

the lovely lady -Ann- was super helpful in the fitting room and would advise on fit and size. The first ones were w32 and 30l were huge in the waist and leg- She got the size spot in and checked the fit of the 29 and 30w 28l
