I got new leather boots & they are making a v loud creaky / squeaky noise when i walk.

Please help! What can i do?

No ideas but just coming on for support 😂
I had this with a pair of boots and the squeaking never went away (so I was glad when they deteriorated enough that I could chuck them away).

Bizarrely, I recently bought some squeaky bras from Asda! I had to take them back to the store. The squeak/creak was REALLY loud every time I moved - there was no way I could have worn them to work.

Oh no!! I was hoping there'd be some fix!!!

I would love to know the answer to this, I have some DMs I love but they squeak so bad at work especially when I walk into certain rooms!

Catsknowbest · 01/11/2025 23:57

Saddle soap, maybe worth a try...?

Thanks! Its not the soles. Its the leather itself. They're Grenson black leather & the leather has a high shine but isn't patent .

I have some leather LV trainers and they squeaked at the start, it was the leather on leather rubbing at the tongue. I would sprinkle talc on to reduce the squeak and it did work.

I would contact Grenson to ask for advice, and/or for a replacement non-squeaking pair.

Thanks for replies.

As they're black i think talc would be visible.

I've also researched online & vaseline is suggested so i might try a tiny bit of that to see if it works.

I'm pretty sure it's coming from the tongue area. I'm also hopeful that when they soften a bit it might stop!

I wonder if dubbin might be a better alternative to Vaseline? It works well on all my boots. DD has a fantastic Belstaff leather jacket that used to squeak. It's now softened into silence with wear.

waffleyversatile1 · 02/11/2025 15:21

I had some lovely loafers that did a puffy air sound when I walked. I had to stop wearing them in the end as everyone at work started saying they could hear me coming and it was becoming a ‘thing’

ThatPinkShark · 06/11/2025 06:32

If I wear them for a longer time, could it be that the leather boots are too hard and don't fit well

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 06/11/2025 06:54

I would contact Grenson before putting anything on them because they’re obviously very well made and you wouldn’t want to ruin them. Their website suggests a leather cream (not specifically for squeakiness) and I wonder if that would help?
