The layering game.

So Ive just gone out in thick tights and thermal vest under my dress (and coat, obviously!)....
decided that its freezing (its really not, its just me!) and added a full petticoat and cycling shorts to the ensemble! I never seem to be happy unless Im sporting at least 4 layers and whilst I could just cocoon myself in a giant puffer coat I hate to resort to that until I really have to.

Any other unreasonably cold ladies out there?
and do you have any tips or good buys to share?

Thermal long sleeve top, medium thickness jumper, body warmer and hat and gloves for a quick shopping trip today 😂😂 also heavy jeans 😵‍💫😁

shellyleppard · 01/11/2025 16:23

I get too hot with my coat on so tend to layer up....warm but not too warm 🥵

waitamo · 01/11/2025 16:26

Sleeveless thermal vest, long sleeved top/jumper. Zip up fleece on top if it's below zero. Never wear tights or leggings, just my usual trousers with ordinary socks. Feet legs and hands never get cold so no gloves either unless below zero. But a wooly hat is always in my bag. I always feel if my head is warm, so is the rest of me!

I too am an onion.Grin

Sounds like you're already doing it perfectly, so no tips to add, I'm afraid. Just (highly stratified) solidarity.

Camisole top, top, dress, overshirt or cardigan…

StonyAdams · 01/11/2025 16:47

Hello my tribe!

long sleeve heatgen
long sleeve top
merino jumper
wool coat
merino tights
long cord skirt
cashmere long scarf

when it gets colder I add a chunky wool cardi over the jumper. And hat and gloves. And shiver till April.

I’m wearing silk long johns with a bamboo vest, flight suit and silk/wool scarf. This damp weather makes me feel like a shivering whippet.

I love my silk long johns and will wear them until around May. They’re like a second skin, no bulk or drag under clothes, pack down to nothing, are quick and easy to wash and dry and can double as pyjamas if you’re going away. I even wear them under long skirts (I push them up to knee length but you can buy short ones) and have worn tights over them.

A petticoat! Wear on earth did you find that?

I just went out with the dogs in jeans, boots and a jumper with a Berghaus padded jacket. I was boiled. It’s not cold here today (bucks). I say that as a perpetually freezing person.

TheChosenTwo · 01/11/2025 17:00

Me! Always bloody freezing, awaiting blood tests to see if there’s an underlying cause because I’d be happy with the thermostat on 30 degrees and still under and electric blanket with thermals on under my clothes. Not hot, just an ambient temperature.

Today I wore thermal long sleeve top and bottom, a pair of thick socks tucked over the leggings, trousers, a second long sleeved
top over the thermal one, a sweatshirt, a big scarf and then a puffa over the top.
i was cold!

Yes people will suggest fabrics/materials/brands etc that will help keep you warm but essentially I was wearing enough clothes objectively to not be bloody freezing cold and I still was.

Glad hear from my tribe!😄
It's all about the multiple thin layers, isn't it?
I've not quite reached the gloves and double socks stage but I'm sure it's coming (i tend to have freezing cold hands and feet).
Ironically I only seem to be freezing when I'm awake! I'm still sleeping under just a fleece blanket coz I overheat at night.🤔
