Expensive Highlights- can't afford it- what do I do?

I've spent the last 2 years getting my hair highlighted. I'm now blond it was supposed to help me blend my grey as it was so bad with dying it myself . Now it's brown minimum grey regrowth.
It's £200 a time but I can't really afford it.
I currently have about 2/3 inch regrowth.
Do i just dying it myself again? Help

Find a college or local salon that offers cheap/ free sessions for models for trainees to practice on. Or look around for someone who works from home or as a mobile hairdresser. I’m sure you’ll find somewhere substantially cheaper if you look hard enough.

Could you find a cheaper salon

jkjkazcfdspor · 01/11/2025 09:33

Have you shopped around your area? I pay £90 for a full head of foils and cut and blow dry, not an expensive area suffice to say but I was paying £115 earlier this year with someone else.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 01/11/2025 09:33

It wasn’t very good if it hasn’t helped the line blend out. DM had highlights across the line, just a few of times.

You are going to have to look for a cheaper hairdresser it doesn't mean you are going to get .poorer quality, or have you considered just getting all over dye that will be cheaper.

sesquipedalian · 01/11/2025 09:36

OP, I don’t pay anything like that to have my hair cut, coloured and highlighted, and blow-dried, but I go to a small out of town salon. If I were to go to a hairdresser in town, I’d be paying double.

dementedpixie · 01/11/2025 09:37

I've decided just to grow my natural hair again, grey and all. Havent had it highlights since last November although I did get some baby lights through my fringe in may so I didn't have a dark fringe and lighter hair.

dementedpixie · 01/11/2025 09:38

P.s. my highlights only cost about £60 when I was getting them done

I pay £90 for a full head of highlights and cut on long hair! If it cost any more I couldn’t commit!

All over dye tends to look grim though.

It sounds like you don't have much grey? In which case just look for someone cheaper who will charge you for a a t section - you don't need a full head, and even if you did, you can find someone good for less than that

Cat1504 · 01/11/2025 10:10

Go somewhere cheaper…..ask your friends and family….l pay £83 for half head hilights and cut and blow ….it’s not fancy….it’s out of town….but she does a great job

I don't think mine looks grim and it looks "highlighted" and doesn't cost £200.

Just have root colour done for a bit?

This is what I have done, then it is blended in

Chewbecca · 02/11/2025 10:47

You have several options:

  • find a (likely) young hairdresser who doesn't charge so much (under £100 is possible)
  • home dye
  • embrace your natural colour (probably suits you well)

I favour option 3.

MightyGoldBear · 02/11/2025 10:54

I have grey blending done so now I can go 12 weeks plus between appointments. My hair dresser is independent and charges around £80
