Dyed my hair black and it ended up being a terrible orangey brown?!

My original hair colour is a very dark, almost black kind of brown (1st pic). About 2 months ago, I went to this salon while on holiday to dye it the kind of black that comes with a blueish tinge under bright light (2nd pic). Not sure why but it ended up being a terrible orangey brown that has only got lighter and lighter over the course of the past 2 months!!!

My hair has finally 'recovered' from feeling like straw after that horrific dye session and I went back to my usual salon for my usual black-with-a-blueish-tinge-under-bright-light dye job. Not sure what went wrong but my hair's now a medium brown (better, but still not ideal) which is unusual as this dye is extremely black and usually covers everything and turns me raven-haired!

Has anyone had any experience of this happening? Or knows how a blue-black colour can not only end up being orangey brown 2 months later, but seems to resist a blueish-black dye that usually works as it should?

Many brown dyes go brassy/orange. You can get blue shampoo to conteract it.

It’s just losing pigment as it fades, nothing is wrong with it. Pretty normal 8 weeks on.

As a pp said many dark dyes have an orange base. You likely have quite porous hair if you’re noticing that it’s losing dye quicker.

The answer is to dye it again! Full head colour does need regular colouring to keep it looking fresh.
