Vinted question

I bought a brand new with tags velvet shirt from Vinted and it arrived today. It stinks of perfume so, to me it has clearly been worn and the tag re-atrached. It's one of those ones with the string that just loops through itself. It's not attached with a plastic clip or similar.

I like it but don't love it so I'd re sell but I can't in all honesty relist as new with tags which will now take the top from the £10 it cost me down to a couple of pounds. Now I have written this all down a few quid is probably just not worth a comment to the person I bought it from but it has pissed me off. What would you do.

Wash it and wear it and not give it any more headspace.

CWigtownshire · 28/10/2025 20:07

I complained to Vinted about as many listings saying they were new but then on reading further they say "only worn a couple of times". Response came back and basically they aren't interested.... Buyer beware!

Doggymummar · 28/10/2025 20:24

I would just it as washed but not worn. I often have old stock that needs washing but is new

Lewiscapaldiscat · 28/10/2025 20:33

do not accept and ask for a return as SNAD

notacooldad · 28/10/2025 20:42

I wouldnt do anything except wash it and wear it if I like it on me or resell it if it didnt fit.

chickenlettuceunderbacon · 28/10/2025 20:58

If I buy something on Vinted and it turns up smelling of perfume or Febreze, I do not accept it and demand a refund. The seller knows full well what they have done and they always refund it.

bumblebee1000 · 28/10/2025 21:03

I have found vinted very good with the refunds...but this tracksuit did arrive with black grease and possibly an egg sandwich splodged down the legs ....described as being brand new !!

PerkyCyanPoet · 28/10/2025 21:38

Is it possible the seller has just doused it in perfume before sending to freshen it up a bit? With Vinted you never know how long it’s been sitting in a pile in someone’s spare room! I’d just wash it and crack on. I find with Vinted I have to set my bar really low, I’ve actually mostly stopped using it because it’s just so hit and miss.

havingoneofthosedays · 28/10/2025 21:41

I find these reply's bizarre, do you not try it on then shove in for a wash??

It's not M&S...

I'm a Pro seller on Vinted and they certainty don't side with a buyer because the item smells of perfume 😆

Some folk should keep away from reselling sites, not most folk just the twee mumsnetters

I hate this.

Advertised as new and then described as ‘worn a couple of times’. I report but Vinted refuse to acknowledge that this an incorrect listing.

How can something that has been worn, be new.😡

I paid £10 for a new with tags top, not a worn and un-washed top stinking of perfume.

If its new with tags and has clearly been worn ive had no issue getting a refund from vinted. I never bother with the seller, just report as not OK, state why and always get an immediate return label which makes me think its an automated decision.

Similar if it's the wrong size, upload photo of label and immediate decision.

If anything other than new with tags I'd wash and wear or charity shop unless it's unarguably not as described.

havingoneofthosedays · 29/10/2025 05:45

Tried it on and the perfume transferred?
Some sellers spray perfume on the item/tissue paper/ bag

Thankfully despite what the above poster said, sellers can counter argue and not refund straight away. Glad Vinted are now taking on board how many piss takers are out there, wanting items for nothing - total scammers.

Liquidcobra · 29/10/2025 14:03

You can open a dispute on Vinted and select “item not as described.” They’ll likely refund you once you upload photos of the tag and mention the perfume smell. It’s not worth letting it slide if the seller listed it as new.

GardenGaff · 29/10/2025 14:06

I’d open a dispute on Vinted if for no other reason than to delay the seller getting paid out if Vinted eventually side with them.

I agree!

It might smell of perfume because it's been hanging in a wardrobe and perfume from other clothes have transferred.

If you like it, wash it a where it, you'd wash it anyway, wouldn't you?

bubzie · 29/10/2025 14:13

This is why I would never buy anything from Vinted. 😬

britneyisfreebutnotokay · 29/10/2025 14:14

Not clothes but I brought a pasta maker on their listed as new without tags. Came in box and original packaging but covered in flour.

Contacted seller who said she only used it once. I only brought it because it said brand new as I can’t have wheat flour! Thankfully she hadn’t bothered to clean it or I’d never have known.

Just wash it!

Marmaladegin · 03/11/2025 21:40

It’s sooo cheeky isn’t it. I complain when this happens but even if offered a refund the CFs know you have to pay for postage to return it!

TeaRoseTallulah · 04/11/2025 10:11

Urghhhh I had a jumper delivered yesterday abd the owner had clearly worn it while having a hair cut as there were hairs all over it ! Quick wash and it's fine but honestly !!
