Funeral help? I'm so tired I can't think.

My grandmother, who pretty much raised me, passed away this week. I had to travel the length of the country, fast, to get to her when she took ill, and didn't think to pack anything funeral-appropriate.

So I've been looking for something I can order online easily - traipsing around the shops feels impossible right now.

She was a very classy, very elegant woman who loved clothes, and I want to honour her by getting something lovely to wear for the funeral.

I've found two dresses that would be 100% perfect, but one is way too expensive and the other is only available on pre-order.

Any ideas on where I could find something (good quality) along these lines?

The one that's far too expensive (but beautiful): https://www.farfetch.com/uk/shopping/women/ana-radu-a-line-lace-maxi-dress-item-24230588.aspx

The one I could afford, but it won't ship until next month: https://www.boden.com/products/kate-puff-sleeve-lace-dress-black

Any suggestions would be very, very appreciated - my brain has shut down a bit since she left us.

I am sorry for your loss, Op.

Have you tried contacting Boden customer services to see if they could deliver the dress sooner?

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 24/10/2025 19:35

@Arlanymor that first one is not elegant and the second is an evening dress!

I like them both and both would be acceptable at funerals I have attended.

I was trying to help, but if my contributions aren't helpful then I will bow out.

Sorry for your loss, I know how overwhelming it can feel, here are some suggestions.

On a practical level it is getting colder at the moment, having attended two funerals in the Autumn/Winter months in the last year that both had a good portion of time spent in a cold church and outside afterwards I also recommend thinking about cardigans, shawls/scarves and tights to keep warm.

So sorry for your loss.
Try ASOS, they ship quite quickly everywhere and stock brands and the filters are great, you can choose length, sleeve type, etc etc

Self portrait are good for a lace dress but I couldn't find a black long sleeve one. Have you looked on rental sites like Hurr.com? Either for your Anna Radu dress or something similar?

Respectfully @Needtosoundoffandbreathe, it's up to the Op to decide whether dresses are suitable or not.

didalittlenamechange · 24/10/2025 20:41

Oh my goodness... look at you all coming through with so many suggestions and ideas. Not a single one of you had to take the time to go digging around to help me this evening, and you did – thank you so, so much.

I'll have a proper dig through all these links in the morning when my eyes are a little less puffy and I have no doubt there'll be something just right in the mix.

My advice would be to wear the best of whatever you already have with you.

At some point after the funeral - even as much as a year later - you can organise some kind of celebration of her life, that is a dress-up event. The right outfit will probably appear of its own accord in the coming months.

I am sorry for your loss. (Perhaps the wish to focus on buying an outfit now is a way of distracting yourself from emotions that could be quite overwhelming.)

SquishyGloopyBum · 24/10/2025 20:56

Does your grandmother have anything you could wear? Just thought it could be a lovely tribute.

Sounds like OP is chief mourner or one of them so she can wear whatever she thinks appropriate

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 24/10/2025 21:04

@Arlanymori liked your choices.

Rina66 · 24/10/2025 21:34

Love and Roses at Nexy have something quite similar?

Adding my sympathies and absolutely zero help with a dress.

I'm so sorry for your loss @didalittlenamechange

This one is between the two you've posted, price wise. It might be a little prim, though.

Edited

I have a Lipsy dress (from Next) very similar to these and wore it to my aunts funeral, she was also a very classy beautiful lady, I did it for her. Quite a few people told me that Mavis (aunt) would have loved it. You wear whatever you think is appropriate to pay your respects, so sorry for your loss.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/10/2025 10:19

Could you wear something of hers? That would be a lovely way to honour her Flowers
