Can I use retinol in the under eye area?

It shouldn't go closer than 1cm from your eye but I think when it is absorbed, it sort of effects quite a big area so even if you don't get it on the bit under your eye, it should still have benefits to that bit.

You probably won't do any damage with an OTC retinol (and as pp has said there are specific retinol eye creams available) but you must not put tretinoin too close to the eyes. In rare cases it can damage the oil glands which lubricate your eyes.

I've had to stop putting tretinoin under my eyes because it causes dark circles for some reason.

I use Beauty of Joseon retinol eye cream and have had no adverse effects. I wouldn't take a retinol or retinal for the fact and apply it though.

I generally use the tret which I use on my face under my eyes but I try to be very careful so a gap is maintained or else it can get into your eyes. My routine which includes tret looks like this: Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
la roche posay spf
Evening:
la roche posay moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel
