Leave in conditioner

My hair is so dry and knotty at the moment. I think possibly due to being peri menopausal. I've also noticed quite a lot of breakage along my hairline as I usually wear my hair up daily. I've stopped doing that now but think a leave in conditioner might help too?
Does anyone have any recommendations. My hair despite being dry does get greasy quite quickly and I hate the feeling of products in my hair. Previous things I've used are - ColorWow Dream Coat ( I liked how it made my hair look but hated the feeling) Umberto Giannini Blonde Spray Leave in conditioner (hated the feeling of my hair) and Philip Kingsley Elasticizer (didn't notice any difference ) I also used to use a kids detangling spray which I actually really liked but the smell was awful!

L’Oréal Elvive Hydra Hair Mask, DAVINES Hair milk (before you blow dry) and some olaplex oil on the ends of your lengths following styling. Xx

Rina66 · 24/10/2025 16:10

Oh yes, forgot the Davines products, they’re very good and smell beautiful - quite often on Vinted as they are usually in the Liberty Advent Calendar.

Absolutely. My hair loves them. I wouldn’t be without. I also wouldn’t underestimate the power of a good hair cut, OP. However, if your hair is dry, it needs moisture, moisture, moisture. If it’s damaged from colour, bleach or heat, it may be in need of protein treatments like olaplex, k18…

I think it's dry from multiple reasons, it's blonde and pretty long and I have a lot of fine hair so gets tangled very easily. I used to wash my hair daily but since working from home I only really wash it maybe 3 times a week and I swear it feels worse for it. I've been using loreal nutri gloss mirror shine shampoo and conditioner the last 2 washes and it does definitely feel nicer. I also brought the shampoo up slightly higher (usually just the very ends) and that's definitely helped. I feel I'm going to be skint after I try all these lovely sound suggestions!!

Mine is exactly the same. My hairdresser uses Davines products and recommended the Oi Oi Leave in Conditioner. I never usually buy hair products from the Hairdressers as they are so pricey but got a travel size one to try and it is amazing. My hair is so soft, no more knots and smells lovely.

Try Vinted or buy the travel sizes so you can sample them before committing - that’s what I do. Davines products are amazing and I personally can vouch for them. That hair milk is my holy grail. I would also consider Moroccan oil or the olaplex oil. I don’t know why people suggest going a long time between washes.. it’s not good for the scalp. I wash every 2 days.

I absolutely love colour wow money

I’ve been looking at Aveda products, especially the botanical repair, and I was wondering if it would help with hair loss? I’m currently dieting and I’ve been told that losing weight quite quickly can cause hair loss and I’m keen to avoid that.

My hair is really fine and straight, quite short, ear length, and used to be greasy but post menopausal it now gets a bit frizzy between washes. The grey hairs are obviously coarser and I have a lot of them! I have low lights added every 8 to 10 weeks so all products need to be suitable for coloured hair.

I am about to buy a paddle brush with far apart bristles like my hairdresser uses as it goes through my wet hair beautifully - Aveda have one on their website. Do I still use ordinary shampoo after shampooing then spray in the leave in conditioner? Or do I just wash then apply the leave in conditioner?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I can afford to buy Aveda products but don’t want to waste my money. I can only buy online or at my local pharmacy ( very small with limited stock really) as I have mobility problems.

I get the Palmers coconut oil formula one for DD's long hair, it seems good and smells really nice.

I also use the Palmers leave in conditioner. It's cheap, and does double duty on my 2 year old's hair as a detangler. My hair likes it, and so does hers. We both have very fine hair, but hers is straight, and mine... used to be very curly, before it all fell out postpartum. What has come back is 1/4 of what I used to have, and 1/4 the curl as well. I also comb jojoba oil through my hair roughly 2x a week, and wash it out the next day after applying.

JONSAR · 24/10/2025 19:05

My hairdresser uses coconut oil. I have very sensitive skin & had an itchy scalp so use a mix of pure coconut oil and a few drops of pure Rosemary oil (both bought from health food shop) weekly. Leave it in for 30 mins & wash out. Softer hair, scalp improved.

Lovehascomeandgone · 24/10/2025 20:25

The L’Oréal professional shampoos and conditioners are nice. I use these followed by the L’Oréal absolute repair oil on the ends once towel dry.

pollymere · 24/10/2025 20:35

L'Oréal do a leave in conditioner aimed at perimenopausal hair. You can get it in Boots. It leaves my hair very soft and it's been growing longer since I've been using it.

marchmash · 24/10/2025 21:12

watching with interest as my hair is very frizzy/menopausal and it's so annoying. Does anyone have experience with Kerastase, that is supposed to be good?

CrossCountryWoosh · 24/10/2025 21:20

This is lovely. It has really helped the knotty short frizzy hair I get on the nape of my hair. Only need a tiny amount.

I dislike the feeling pf product in my hair, but do like Pantene Pro-V leave-in.

Peri too and I swim regularly, so need to avoid getting crunchy chlorine hair.

Asda Little Angels detangler is great 😊 spray on after you wash your hair - baby soft hair

MummyChocolateMonster · 24/10/2025 23:13

I really like the Lush super milk.

L'Oréal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Oil Midnight Renourishing Hair Treatment Serum for Dry Hair - I'm loving this at the moment. I apply it through my dry hair everyday, sometimes more. It doesn't weigh it down. Its a dupe for a keratese expensive ones.

ADORE this for my menopausal hair!!! And it smells GORGEOUS! Like a moisturiser for hair. I have a bottle in the bedroom, the bathroom, and my office!

Francestein · 25/10/2025 00:20

Also, Abbey Yung (YouTube) recommends Pantene Miracle 10 something something leave in for fine hair. I haven’t used it myself, though

OnlyHasEyesForLoki · 25/10/2025 08:16

I spray my hair with Epres pre-wash treatment (I leave it in overnight once a week then wash in the morning) and it is incredible - then wash and condition with Philip Kingsley moisture balancing (I get oily roots and dry lengths) then use Kevin Murphy night shift serum every night on the lengths. I have my hair highlighted and it’s long and very thick but is in amazing condition.

Kerastase is good - but in my opinion there are other products which are cheaper and just as good if not better

Toooldtocare25 · 25/10/2025 08:37

I’ve had exactly this problem and am trying everything!
I’m 45 hair breaking falling out
I have been taking Habi gummies for hair and nails these are around £10 in boots and sometimes in deals on the £10 Tuesday
I got recommended coco and eve sweet repair conditioner and this is expensive but has saved my hair
I also switched to sulfate free shampoo there’s lots about now from £1 up in onebeyond called gudlox to the more expensive ones. Gudlox is fantastic tho. Sulfates are what creates the lather and I find dried out my hair causing it to snap.
