Vinted Advice Needed

I have far too many clothes and need to let some go.

I look after my clothes/bags and they are all in good condition, many just worn once or twice however due to change in size/other reasons there are a huge amount of things that I will never wear again.

I’ve been thinking of selling on Vinted but since I opened an account ( not yet listed anything) I keep seeing posts on social media complaining of scams, buyers saying they never received the parcel despite tracking saying otherwise, buyers saying that the wrong item was received even if the seller has pics of the items that were packaged etc

I know there are two sides to every story but it has made me very wary of listing anything.

I sold on EBay many years ago with no issue but now I’m really worried that I’m going to potentially open myself up to a lot of stress/issues and the possibility that the clothes will be gone with nothing to show for them.

Has anyone who has used Vinted experienced issues or do the majority of sales complete with no trouble?

Absolutely any advice would be gratefully received, thank you

I sold loads of DD's baby stuff on Vinted and never had an issue. I did once buy a Zara baby coat for DD that absolutely stank of smoke and looked like it had been retrieved from a skip tho! Had to immediately bin it. But everything else I've bought has been fab.

I have sold a lot on vinted and never had any problems. Take lots of good photos and of they say they were damaged vinted will side with you. That's being said I have never had a problem and love vinted

I’ve been using Vinted for about 18 months. Things go well until they don’t. I actually have a thread running about their crap support function.

I have personally noticed a real increase in issues (mainly postage related - which then requires Vinted’s help, which, in my experience is non-existent, or takes ages).
I’ve had three issues now in as many weeks. Prior to that, over the last 18 months, I just had one issue with a seller who didn’t read the size on an item properly.

That Vinted’s ‘support’ function is crap? | Mumsnet

I’ve had the misfortune to need to use Vinted’s help function twice now, in as many weeks. The first time the issue wasn’t resolved by Vinted. Me and...

I love vinted, have bought so much stuff. It's brilliant for kids clothes.

I've sold about 400 quids worth of stuff over the past 4 or 5 months. Mostly I sell stuff for under £10 but there are a few things that have gone for more - I sold an LK Bennett dress last week for £45. It completely depends on the brand and the item. I've only ever had 1 bad experience as a seller.

I was a buyer on eBay and had two bad experiences. Only bought 5 things! I had to clawback £100 from customer services via my bank as it’s all AI and could not care less. Vinted customer services were APPALLING, very stressful. Unfortunately it’s put me off selling!

However if you keep things under £20 maybe it’s not so bad if things do go wrong.

EBay definitely better generally IME, so much easier in terms of feedback, customer services etc, but I’m not sure if they have as big an audience as Vinted.

Lots of good tips already. Just a few extra I would add based on my experience.

Package in something waterproof as it reduces likelihood of damage claims. Double wrap more expensive items and film yourself packing. It's fine to reuse packaging from things you have received.

Check the bundle discount settings - it's helpful to have it on if you have low cost items as people are then more likely to buy multiple things as they only pay postage once. However, be careful if you have a mix of more expensive and cheaper things. The buyer can add a few extra cheap things and end up with a big discount on everything including the more expensive item.

The algorithm seems to give you good visibility when you upload a few things at once. Have a session taking great photos of everything, then upload say 5 at a time every few days. It's quick to upload once you have sorted everything out and got photos.

I've sold quote a lot on vinted, mainly children's, with no problems.
However, it is time consuming and a bit stressy.
If you don't need the money, give the stuff to charity. You'll feel great.

It is a buyer’s market. It has become so popular that your items are likely to be lost amongst an ocean of many and you have to price pretty low, even for very good brands. If something is quite sought-after and trendy right now you may be in luck at getting a more acceptable price.

ebay is a safer bet but I have found the traffic there pretty low recently.

I have probably bought 40 things and sold 40 things.
1 issue each way.
Selling - a pair of slightly used Adidas Superstars. Described accurately and honestly, with lots of photos. Buyer unhappy with condition, as if he was expecting brand new for £10. I asked him to send me some photos and would have accepted a return. He never did.

Buying - bought a jacket with a slightly damaged zip. Lovely jacket in every other way, but a slight kink in the zip made it unusable. Seller accepted the return request with no quibble, and sent me a return label straight away. Money was back in my account within a week of returning it.

I've used Vinted for 3 years and I've made over £3000 mostly selling items at around £5 or £10. Never been scammed. There's plenty good advice to check before you start to avoid this but mostly keep photographs of anything expensive being wrapped and posted and always use a box.
