Vinted Advice Needed

Fartoomanyclothes · 22/10/2025 09:26

I have far too many clothes and need to let some go.

I look after my clothes/bags and they are all in good condition, many just worn once or twice however due to change in size/other reasons there are a huge amount of things that I will never wear again.

I’ve been thinking of selling on Vinted but since I opened an account ( not yet listed anything) I keep seeing posts on social media complaining of scams, buyers saying they never received the parcel despite tracking saying otherwise, buyers saying that the wrong item was received even if the seller has pics of the items that were packaged etc

I know there are two sides to every story but it has made me very wary of listing anything.

I sold on EBay many years ago with no issue but now I’m really worried that I’m going to potentially open myself up to a lot of stress/issues and the possibility that the clothes will be gone with nothing to show for them.

Has anyone who has used Vinted experienced issues or do the majority of sales complete with no trouble?

Absolutely any advice would be gratefully received, thank you

For the higher value items you mention I would look for a consignment shop.

venus7 · 22/10/2025 18:54

Ebay is not as good asa few years ago, I've tested whether things are seen by typing in the search; things I have listed don't appear, despite specific brands being named etc. Ebay ask you to 'promote' your listings for visibility, something big companies on there can do. Wherever you sell, avoid HEWI; I've sold on there for several years, still waiting for payment for item sold over a month ago, other sellers owed thousands. BBC radio did a report on them last week, think I won't see my £110.

reversingdumptruckwithnotyreson · 22/10/2025 19:01

It’s all a bit of a game of luck but so far I haven’t had any issues, only a one time picky buyer (I suspect they were trying to catch me for a refund??) and someone who asked me to reserve something and didn’t come through, which was annoying. I now sell to whoever pays first.

My only advice is take lots of photos and don’t forget to disable the types of postage you don’t want to deal with.

And be prepared to go cheap because now it’s flooded with sellers.

Autumn1990 · 22/10/2025 19:13

I find things sell well for decent money if they’re in excellent condition and good brands. With a new account list the cheaper stuff first so you get some good feedback before trying to sell the more expensive.

dudsville · 22/10/2025 19:13

I think it depends on what you're selling. I wouldn't bother with lots of low priced items as you'll sell lots and therefore have to purchase packaging and be frequently heading out to post items. I think that's more work for the pound. I started selling and buying on vinted nearly a year ago but I stick to one brand I know well that tends to go for higher prices. Some weeks I sell a few items, some things sit for a long time and sell months later. Once I've posted something I put it away so it's no bother to me while I'm waiting for it to sell. I check my prices against other vinted and ebay posts if the same item and aim for the middle. I expect someone to ask for a few pounds off so I also price with that in mind, but when someone gets into haggling I block them as I'm just not interested in that. I own the item, selling it has to be worth it to me. I've even once replied by sending a link to someone wanting my item for peanuts, as there was one selling for peanuts elsewhere. So far I've had a great experience.

I sell regularly on Vinted, and have only had one issue with a buyer & it was not a big deal. I much prefer it to eBay.

Corknut · 22/10/2025 19:32

I buy and sell a huge amount on Vinted and have only had 1 real issue that was dealt with by Vinted and went in my favour. Main things to know as a seller is, people will usually always offer even if it’s reasonably priced so always over estimate by a couple of pounds, research brands as some do VERY well and be careful not to under value items that are trending, ignore Vinteds suggestions on price. As a buyer, always offer. Look at the sellers profile, a new account with no reviews and no profile pic is a red flag. If it looks too good to be true it usually is, gone are the days of rich housewives selling off their daughters Ralph Lauren stuff for £10 a piece. Vinted is also crawling with fakes especially Hacoo stuff, look for weird prices and multiple items listed for the same amount. I could go on but I’ll spare everyone 😂

triggers34 · 22/10/2025 19:40

I sell on both eBay and Vinted . My advice sell seasonally, now is a good time for coats and knitwear . Don’t price too low and ignore what Vinted says you should price . Your coat should definitely get more than £10. With Vinted it’s important to get as much info in the heading , the brand the colour ,the size the style , which helps it be found . Don’t list all the things at once , dribble them on a few a day, as people invariably look at all your clothes so it keeps your wardrobe getting views if that makes sense.
some brands are really popular - Toast , Brora , Barbour are a few I can think of .

Mangetoutmangetouti · 22/10/2025 19:51

I buy and sell. Only one problem ever with a sold item, that it didn’t match the photo colour, I assume it was different on the buyer’s screen as it looked fine to me but I accepted the return.
People do pay good prices for certain brands or high end/ high rrp products, just do good pictures and descriptions. I have sold lots of things at way over a tenner each.
if you don’t want to sell lots of individual low cost items then do bundles of things that go well together or basics of the same size, similar colour ways and things that complement each other

Please go on!
The more hints the better.

I think I’ve nearly been fooled by hacoo stuff a few times, usually trainers, but I’ve usually pulled back just before pressing buy , then someone else buys them straight away and I wonder if I’ve missed out on the real thing 🫣

it’s when they cost something like £62.80 I wonder if they’re genuine.

also things that even have the logo on the front but say ‘no brand’ or similar in the listing must be faked, some look so good/ real

TwistyTurnip · 22/10/2025 20:00

I’ve not had any problems and I’ve sold loads.

freyaparkrun · 22/10/2025 20:20

I’ve sold and bought a few things on Vinted.
I have had no issues so far touch wood.
when listing point out any faults or flaws and post the item quickly

bugalugs45 · 22/10/2025 20:28

450 ish transactions here , 2 negative from buyers taking the piss so pretty good odds ! But I don’t sell anything mega expensive, couple of £50 items but most under £15 , on the whole it’s been positive to me , most annoying thing is when buyers make you wait the whole 48 hours for you to get your money rather than clicking all is ok which takes 2 seconds !

ElleintheWoods · 22/10/2025 20:52

I've sold 67 items and earned 1K from them. I've had 2 issues, both my fault, as I accidentially sent the buyer the wrong size. Overall the experience has been much better than expected and not dissimilar from eBay. User interface much easier to navigate, uploads also much easier

letshavetea · 22/10/2025 21:03

I do enjoy Vinted. I use it for buying and selling. I started on there when I lost a lot of weight and have been in the process of buying new clothes.

You do have to look at things in the round with buying as some things won’t fit or suit. Part of the problem is that sizing is all over the place! Don’t be afraid to ask for measurements as this gives a good idea of possible fit.

Sometimes things are described as in better condition than they actually are. Now I stick to new with tags or new without tags mainly unless someone says worn once or twice and isn’t too expensively priced. Sometimes I make a loss on re-selling. If I’m lucky I’ll get my money back. I have a rule not to sell anything for less than £5. Less than that and I’d rather send it to charity!

With respect to pricing, I don’t follow vinted guidelines. I’ve now found I’m pretty clued up in my favourite brands and what things go for.
If something isn’t selling I take it off for a while and then re-list it or reduce the price.

My best purchases have been expensive label summer dresses and new with tags handbags from Whistles and Kate Spade.

The biggest advantage is that I no longer wear anything if I don’t really like it. It goes straight onto vinted!

As others have said - do take clear pictures including labels. Give measurements if possible. Be honest about any flaws. Set the delivery people you’ll be prepared to deal with, but be aware vinted can override this! Remember to set your brand personalisation for purchases. I put in a lot of higher end makes and I find that’s where I’ve got the real bargains!

I’d say my wardrobe is now about fifty fifty vinted and new shop purchases.

Chinsupmeloves · 22/10/2025 21:10

I've only ever bought on vinted and not jad any problems. A couple of items have been accidentally sent to me but that's it. I would love to start selling but not got round to it..xxx

millymae · 22/10/2025 21:11

I have always used eBay but gave up when they introduced what they chose to call Simple Delivery in April.
Friends tried to persuade me to try Vinted then, and last month I finally decided to give it an go. Now I wish I’d started selling there sooner asI’ve found it so much better than eBay ever was.
Listing is so much easier and with my 36 completed sales so far I’ve had no issues at all. I chose to limit my courier options to Royal Mail and Evri purely for my convenience as my local post office deals with both and will print the postage labels from QR codes The vast majority of buyers have opted for Evri and I’m amazed at how reliable and quick deliveries have been.
I only sell items I would be willing to buy myself, make the sizing clear and provide lots of photographs. Before I list anything I look at what similar items are selling for and price them at just under what seems to be the going rate. So far I’ve chosen to ignore any offers and all my sales have been at my asking price.
Transferring money out of my vinted account and into my bank account has been easy and quick so for me all I can say is so far so good.
I’m not naive though. Plenty of people have had issues so I may have just been lucky up to now.

Fartoomanyclothes · 22/10/2025 14:19

Thank you so much to everyone has posted for all the advice, it is really appreciated.

I have a mannequin to display the clothes on for photos and will take measurements as I measure, I agree sizing is an issue between brands

It’s interesting that many of you have said consider vinted a car boot sale and price accordingly as that is the part I’m struggling with.

I’ve been looking through my wardrobe this morning and have a beautiful white wool coat with a detachable faux fur collar that I paid about £100 for, I’ve only worn it once and it is immaculate, the idea of selling it for less than £10 feels awful but I agree with a PP who said that the £10 is better than it sitting in my wardrobe unworn.

Does anyone still use eBay anymore? I sold lots on there years ago but haven’t considered it as most people seam to have moved to Vinted

I do buy from vinted with mixed success. Only ever sell through eBay

Landflock · 22/10/2025 21:24

I have been buying from Vinted for about a year. Most sales have been fine. I had one item go missing after it had been posted through Inpost and I believe we both ended up being refunded. And one pair of shoes were sent which were the wrong size, which I returned and got refunded. A few things have been in slightly worse condition than expected but still usable (I don't expect items to be perfect unless nwt). I do expect to get bargains though and tend to make offers.

I like ebay but being able to combine postage on Vinted makes it far cheaper (I'll often add extra items to make a bundle). And being able to use Inpost lockers makes Vinted much more convenient for me, it's much nicer to collect my parcels without any human interaction at all.

FirstDayonthePlanet · 22/10/2025 21:36

Regarding the negative posts on social media, is it the ‘idiots of Vinted’ page? Posts from here always seemed to pop up on my feed even though I don’t follow the page. Obviously given the name of the page, it was all horror stories and I found myself becoming overly paranoid, viewing all messages with suspicion etc. whereas in actual fact I’ve sold nearly 100 things and never had a problem!

that said I never sell anything really valuable or anything that I wouldn’t be prepared to lose if something did go awry. My view is that if it doesn’t sell within a few weeks it gets donated anyway so very little to lose.

Thundertoast · 22/10/2025 21:44

I have been on Vinted for 3 years and have over 500 transactions, about 1/4 of that buying. Only women's clothing or homeware, no designer items which I think ups your chances of scams etc (sportswear brands, handbags etc) I've only had two issues as a seller (one my error one batshit person) three parcels get lost in the post (as a seller) and maybe 4 items turn up not as described (new without tags when clearly worn, Very Good condition when its got marks etc)
I love it, tbh. Seller stuff mostly in the 5 - 30 range. Go on ASOS and look at whats trending and then assess any of your items accordingly. Right now, a burgundy trench will go for a lot more than it would have done in March as there's loads in the shops.

TheLemonLemur · 22/10/2025 22:23

Ive sold a lot but low cost and high volume. Think its only been an odd item at £20/£30. Just take videos etc when packaging items I've only had issues with 1 person and the transaction completed anyway as I told them to return at their own cost

Cyclingmummy1 · 22/10/2025 22:29

I've had no more than half a dozen problems in 400 sales. 2-3 lost items, one I didn't put everything in a bundle (posted it when the buyer told me).

Save all your packaging to reuse, and I like to wrap in tissue or a plastic bag then the outer packaging but most don't seem to.

readingmakesmehappy · 22/10/2025 22:30

I’ve made over £1000 selling things on Vinted over the last 3 years and I’ve never had any trouble at all. Put as much stuff on as you can in one go as people may be more likely to buy if they can buy multiple things from you. Remember the price the buyer pays will include postage. If it’s nice quality stuff price sensibly, but be prepared for people to try and negotiate you down (I personally won’t take off any more than 20% and I feel I know how what brands people will pay more for). I love Vinted, I get most of my and DC clothes there now.

FloozingThePlot · 23/10/2025 10:44

I've sold about £100 worth every month for the last four months since I started using Vinted to sell. Before that, I bought a few things - only one issue as a buyer was similar to a PP - a moisturiser listed as new and unopened which clearly wasn't. I have not yet had any issues as a seller but it is probably early days!
I price sensibly, having researched similar items on Vinted and ebay. I'm in no hurry to sell - things sit there at a price I'm happy to sell at. Most things sell eventually.
Be prepared for people making STUPID offers e.g. 1/3 of the listed price. It used to bug me, now I just block them as they're likely to be a PITA if they do buy.
