petite quilted jacket

I'm struggling to find a quilted jacket that flatters me. I'm 5'2" and around a size 8-10. I really like the look of this Whistles one on the model: https://www.whistles.com/product/ida-short-quilted-coat-40523.html#cgid=Clothing_WW&is=false&sz=60&start=0&isSecondPage=false&pid=ida-short-quilted-coat-40523&pos=1 and this Zara one: https://www.zara.com/uk/en/quilted-jacket-with-patch-pockets-p08372279.html?v1=463026983
but I've ordered both and they look ridiculous on me - they overwhelm my frame, especially around the shoulders and arms - I look like a gorilla. I'm trying to find a petite alternative, but am struggling. I like burgundy, khaki and dark grey. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be very grateful!
Thanks in advance.

Sweaty Betty had something similar, can't post a link ATM!

Merula · 17/10/2025 12:35

Thank you @Herecomesthehotflusher ! I did see that one, but it looks a bit long and shapeless. Ideally, I'd prefer it a bit shorter.

I got a great one from New Look exactly like this a few years ago but they haven't got anything similar in their Petite range this year, shame as they're a good price but worth keeping an eye.

whatk8ydid · 17/10/2025 13:05

On holiday at the moment so sorry if the link gives pesos instead of pounds 😂 but I'm a similar height/frame to you and have struggled with the same issue. I've got a similar jacket to this one from Nobody's Child that seems to sit nicely on me, might be worth checking out (and the Archive sale whilst you're there...).

Thanks @ILoveLukeAlderton and @whatk8ydid I hadn't looked at either of those stores so will have a look. I definitely need to find somewhere with a good petite section.

Zara have one in Burgundy - as attached that was on Melissa Murrells Instagram page this morning. I think she said she wears an XS and she's petite too.

I don't have a specific recommendation OP, but have you tried children's jackets? They tend not to suffer as much from the enormously oversized trend.

I'm 5'6", size 10-12, and I fit age 15-16 in children's clothes. So maybe you'd want to try age 13-14?

SuperSugarHigh · 17/10/2025 13:45

Zara is your friend - their sizing runs small, I’m 5’1 and size 6/8 and had a few similar jackets from Zara. Usually around £40 so not the quality you’d get from Whistles, Hobbs etc but they do the trick.

Thank you! I've tried the pink Whistles one and it's still too big. I will browse Hobbs though 😊

Thanks! I linked to this one in my post. I really like how it looks on the model but the XS looked huge on me. I think maybe the style is just not for me, even though I like the look on other people.

I've not found anything on Zara so far, but I'm going to Spain in a couple of weeks, and I'm hoping there might be more options in the Zara out there. Thanks!

@Merula you linked to a whistles jacket on your first post.
The one I've just sent you a picture of is a Zara jacket....
Admittedly they do look very similar.
See how it fits on the Melissa Murrell Instagram post today.

Thanks - I linked to them both (there should be two links in my post). I liked the look of the Zara one best - it's a good length. But when I tried it on, it looked huge on me (in the xs). It's not normally such a problem but I think I might just have to accept that this style doesn't suit me!

I got a nice one from Monsoon that's abit more fitted.
TBH I think that boxy quilted style is always going to swamp a petite person.

Ginandbitterlemons · 17/10/2025 19:18

Op - No helpful suggestions am afraid.. but just to say that style hits in the wrong place with me at 5 ft 1.. tried so many on at the weekend- they all looked too long - so frustrating! Hope that you get sorted!

We are currently in Spain and my petite daughter has just bought one in Mango girl. Such a good fit.

I recently bought a dark khaki quilted jacket from Holland Cooper that’s a perfect length (5’3” tall)

minipie · 18/10/2025 08:46

much cheaper this one from H&M looks like it comes up small. But only in off white and charcoal.

Countmeout · 18/10/2025 09:42

This is the one my daughter bought but in navy. Think there were a few colours. Works out at about £33 odd when converted
