Are mini-skirts still appropriate for women over 30?

I’ve noticed mini-skirts making a big comeback lately, and it got me wondering—are they still considered “age-appropriate” once you’re past your 20s? I’m in my mid-30s and still love the look, especially in summer, but a few friends say it feels “too young” now. Personally, I think it’s more about how you style it and how confident you feel, but I’m curious what others think.
Do you feel there’s an age limit for mini-skirts, or is that an outdated idea?

Stop GAF what anyone else thinks. If you feel good wearing them, carry on and keep wearing them until you’re 70 if you feel like it. Ditto long hair

Agreed. 30 is no age at all!

Toddlertiredp · 11/10/2025 13:25

So long as you can’t see your knickers, why not!

SidewaysOtter · 11/10/2025 13:29

I'm nearer 50 than 40 and I wear a mini skirt if I want, along with anything else I want to wear.

I couldn't give a tuppenny fuck for ideas about "age appropriate" clothing.

NotMeNoNo · 11/10/2025 13:34

If you suit mini skirts it's about your shape, style and personality, not age. I have literally seen ladies over 80 looking great in a distinctly above knee skirt.

MayaPinion · 11/10/2025 13:35

I’m 57 and I wore a puffball minidress and knee boots to a gig last week, and gave no fucks. I looked fucking awesome too!

MayaPinion · 11/10/2025 13:36

Do you not even wear them in the summer? What about shorts or short dresses? Knees are knees.

indoorplantqueen · 11/10/2025 13:37

I hope so , I’ve several and wear them often and I’m in my 40’s.

TalkSomeSense2 · 11/10/2025 13:45

Bloody hell! I'm 54 and can still rock a mini! I don't go to the gym 5 times a week to keep my legs swathed in acres of fabric. Although I'm strictly a opaque tights and DM;s kind of person.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/10/2025 15:02

No. Our legs fall off once we hit 29.

What a load of bloody bollocks.

WalkingWavy · 11/10/2025 15:07

Wore a black leather one last weekend. I’m 36

Catarinabella · 11/10/2025 15:13

I’m late 60’s, still wear mini skirts, with chunky flat boots, slouchy jumper and thick tights. I don’t give a fig what anyone thinks or judges.

spoonbillstretford · 11/10/2025 15:18

Eh?

I don't understand your question, OP.

I'm 50 and wear miniskirts.

LillyPJ · 11/10/2025 15:20

I'm in my 60s and would wear a mini skirt, probably with dark tights. I don't care what some people think is appropriate and I think skirts are far more comfortable than trousers or jeans

Cadenza12 · 11/10/2025 15:22

When they first made a comeback (so long ago I can't remember when) it was bandied about that you shouldn't wear them if you did first time around! I wore them in the 60s but so did everyone and you would have looked odd if you didn't. Now you please yourself.

Shitshowcentral · 11/10/2025 15:22

Wtf? 30? Didn’t know we were seen as a group to mind what they’re wearing (if this is a serious question)

SpackelFrog · 11/10/2025 15:24

Alright Trump, let’s arrest anyone over 29 in a short skirt, gross old women.

Although anyone under 30 is also “asking for it” by wearing one.

VegQueen · 11/10/2025 15:47

Yes definitely, my mum still wears them in her 60s (with tights). I am in my 30s and wouldn’t think twice, although there are some things I wore when I was younger that I probably wouldn’t now (short shorts and crop tops).

MoominMai · 11/10/2025 15:50

Of course they are! I’m 52 and love wearing a heavy duty cord or suede mini skirt in the Autumn with a thick pair of opaque tights. With a nice fitted jumper or top and sometimes matching mini jacket or a long winter coat and knee length or ankle boots - it’s one of my favourite looks!

Solaire18381 · 11/10/2025 15:56

I don't think age matters. I would say if you suit it matters more.

For example I've seen some women in their 20's who most people would say a mini skirt doesn't do them justice whatsoever (but as long as they are happy I guess) whereas I've seen women in their 60's absolutely rocking a miniskirt and looking fantastic.

Rosebold · 11/10/2025 15:59

If you feel comfortable in it go for it!

SeaAndStars · 11/10/2025 16:05

No they are not. Over 30 all women should wear knee length tweed and nothing less than 100 denier tights, preferably with reinforced gussets.

There's one of these "Are women over 30 decrepit hags?" every day on MN.

TBC99 · 11/10/2025 16:05

I'm mid 60s and love a mini skirt/dress with thick tights in winter or shorts in summer.

Wear what you want

Oranesandlemons · 11/10/2025 16:05

I’m 33 and it never occurred to me I could be too old to wear anything 🙈im in better shape now than I was in my 20s so taking my chance to wear mini skirts now!

PensionMention · 11/10/2025 16:31

Women can wear what they like.
All they need to do is put something on and decide if they look good in it.
Of course some may make a mistake about what suits them but what does it matter.

Tryingatleast · 11/10/2025 16:33

Yes. Extra points if you wear them in a classy way with dark tights and boots!!
