Looking for recommendations for a spa day in Newcastle/Northumberland/Tyne & Wear

Don't want / have time for a full on holiday, but do definitely need a bit of me time relaxation.

I'm looking for somewhere I can spend the day on my own. A nice, relaxation area (pool side is OK as long as no kids / full-on exercise classes with music etc), lunch included, a massage or two. Happy to pay extra for drinks etc. Overnight would be nice if it's a hotel.

There are a lot listed for Bannatyne but they also get terrible reviews. I don't want to make time to do something nice for myself and then be disappointed.

Help an old lady out please!

I’ve done most locally, or it feels like I have. Seaham Hall, Ramside Hall and Rockcliffe hall have been the best. I thought doxford was small, slayley is dated and redworth just ok.

A bit further afield, really enjoyed Swinton estate recently. Rudding park is not as good as it used to be but still lovely. Brimstone in the lakes was lovely too.

my friend has just been to the Malmaison and really enjoyed it. And apparently Matfeb has been done out fairly recently but I haven’t been!

hope you find what you are looking for!

Swinton park and middleton lodge are both nice.

Seaham Hall is probably the best up here but it definitely isn’t in any of those 3 areas and is a bit far if you are staying in Northumberland.

If you need to be north of the Tyne, I’d go to Matfen.

However, saying that City Retreat in the city (it has 3 locations now) is fab. Not a spa as in Seaham Hall, but it does do amazing treatments.

Matfen Hall is the crème de la crème.

Matfen hall, Seaham hall though I agree it’s not in the area. Also agree that Doxford hall isn’t as nice.

Definitely Ramside Hall if you’re driving. Stunning but ££££££.

My friend has a membership there 😳. It’s been renovated to within an inch of its life, used to go to proms with my students and it definitely doesn’t look like that anymore.

Agree, it’s lovely but if you are staying in north Northumberland, it’s a bit of a trek.
