Over 50 make up

I am 52 and feel like I need a complete make up overhaul! Most of my stuff is almost finished so it’s a good time to start. I am quite pale with blue eyes and have worn tinted moisturiser for the last year or so because I wanted something lighter than foundation. Thinking of going to Boots for a consultation at the weekend but just wanted to know if there are any particular brands or items that are recommended for more mature ladies like me?!

Similar age. Agree re tinted moisturiser - I love Erborian cc cream (the Dull Correct in the purple tube is my fave). I use a little concealer - Huda Beauty do a nice one, and Lancome. Currently trying the new mascara from RUM beauty - it’s a tubing mascara and quite nice. My absolute fave mascara is Push Up Lashes from Charlotte Tilbury though. I still need a little powder on the T zone too.

Thanks both. I have been using bare minerals tinted moisturiser as want to avoid too many chemicals. I’ll look at the ones you have suggested especially Erborian which seems to be popular!

How did it go @Allloveisbeautiful ? Did you get the hard sell.
I'm so overdue an overhaul. I thought I'd go back to bare minerals (first tried 20 years ago!)!

I’ve just recently started using Laura Geller primer and compact and really liking them. They always have offers- I went for the primer, concealer and bake with brushes thrown in. About £50 I think.

Allloveisbeautiful · 25/10/2025 20:57

@Barefacial I haven’t made any progress! I am off work for a week so might try out a few different ones and see if any look better than what I’m currently wearing

I’ve recently got into Trinny London make up. I use their BFF cream which gives a lovely base for make up but doesn’t look like a mask at all. You can sort of see your natural skin through it if you know what I mean. I have pale skin too and never use proper foundation because I find it too much but this is light and smooth. I also use the mascara and cream blushers. I’m mid fifties and think it looks good on more mature skin.

SpigTheFish · 25/10/2025 21:08

I really Rate Trinny London makeup, as its designed for mature skin.

You do an online consultation and get recommendations for your colouring - great for those of us who are natural blondes with pale eyes and skin as most standard makeup now seems to be designed for people with brown hair brown eyes and a medium skin tone.

Pricey but worth it.

CountryGirlInTheCity · 25/10/2025 21:46

Just to add that there are now some Trinny London retail outlets. At least one John Lewis has a franchise in store, maybe more, so if you’re not into online consultations that might be good.

My initial contact was through their outlet at Bluewater and I got some advice and now I buy what I want online.
