Make up remover that works

Can anyone recommend an eye makeup remover that actually works?!!

I’ve tried loads - wipes, micellar water, cream cleansers…

I always wake up with mascara smudges under my eyes and it’s slightly annoying!!!
I use Clarins mascara if that’s relevant. It’s clearly good stuff but just won’t totally shift!!

The Emma Hardey cleansing balm is really nice.

Nivea double effect, the one with a blue and white layer that you have to shake to mix. Brilliant stuff, shifts waterproof mascara no bother.

UnintentionalArcher · 27/09/2025 14:16

@madameimadam baby oil

Starlight40 · 27/09/2025 14:19

I use Tesco’s own micellar water

LoafofSellotape · 27/09/2025 14:45

Elf balm

This!

Another vote for Nivea Double effect! The one that’s blue & clear liquid, the bottle needs shaking to work.
amazing stuff and gets my waterproof mascara off every day, gently.

ExplodingCarrots · 27/09/2025 15:34

L’Oréal Gentle eye and lip make up remover . It’s the only thing that fully removes my maybelline waterproof mascara . I’d used so many things before this and this is the only thing that works that also don’t sting your eyes .

sciaticafanatica · 27/09/2025 15:35

Lancôme

Lovemycat2023 · 27/09/2025 15:46

I use a Superdrug little pot of melting cleanser and then a micro fibre (black) facial cloth (Tesco)

madameimadam · 27/09/2025 15:47

See, I tried the Nivea shaky-bottle one and it didn’t get rid of it either. I’m very thorough so don’t think it’s me!! This hasn’t been an issue before so maybe it’s the mascara that’s bombproof.

Baby oil is a good shout. I’ll give it a try!

May be change your Mascara?

GeorgeTheFirst · 27/09/2025 17:06

No no, if you find a bomb proof mascara, stick with it!

I have just switched to an excellent Estée Lauder one that defeats my body shop camomile cleansing butter.

The La Roche Posay eye make up remover that you need to shake gets it off. As did the Clinique purple bottle one, but that's more expensive. I've never found a micellar water that works.

HoratioBum · 27/09/2025 17:40

Pink lid Garnier micellar water works fine for me. I soak a pad and hold it against my lids for a few seconds before wiping to get it loosened up. But then I use my cleansing oil ( Superfacialst Vit C) on my lids as well when I do a second cleanse, which takes off any residual mascara.

Redhairandhottubs · 27/09/2025 17:55

I use almond oil for eye makeup up.

CookingFatCat · 27/09/2025 18:56

I use Vaseline first then the garnier oil miceller water. Works a treat.

Nobumsonthetable · 27/09/2025 21:36

Even the own brand micellar waters are good, but you have to soak a cotton pad and hold it against your eye for 5-10 seconds, then wipe off.

NeedWineNow · 27/09/2025 22:51

Estée Lauder eye makeup remover is the best IMO. Gets everything off and you only need a small amount. It’s the only one that doesn’t leave a film over my eyes or make my eye area sore.

bobdylannumber1 · 27/09/2025 23:12

Boots own brand eye make up remover cream in a blue bottle and cotton wool takes all mascara etc off using years

MadisonMontgomery · 28/09/2025 08:38

It’s not the makeup remover you need, it’s what you’re using to take it off with - I use those magic makeup eraser cloths (those pink microfibre ones - I just have the cheapo version from B&M) and it is a game changer. I just use cetaphil cleanser with them, and it gets EVERYTHING off, and I do a full face with loads of makeup. And they just get bunged in the washing machine with my towels and come out spotless. Would never go back to using anything else.
