Levis- what size to get?

I used to love my Levis when I was younger and I am gutted that I have thrown out my old pairs! I used to be a skinny size 6/8 and wore a 26 waist, 30 leg length which meant my jeans were nice & loose fitting. Just wondering what size a size 8 would be?? Most of my trousers & jeans are an 8 but some can be tight. Maybe 28 waist? I want to take advantage of some cheaper online prices so would be ordering online without trying on. Thank you!

Surely the obvious answer is measure the waistband of a pair of trousers that fits well?

Unfortunately no, because if you consult the Levis size guide you will see that a 28 waist is not actually 28 inches!!

OP, I wear a 30 in Levis and I'm a size 10-12 so a 28 might be a good place to start for you.

Thank you! I didn’t even think of this. I wasn’t sure of where exactly to measure in terms if my waist (high/low/middle) but looking at other jeans/trousers makes sense x

I came on to say the same, I have a 30 waist and I’m on the smaller end of a 12.

Elmo22 · 26/09/2025 14:32

That’s useful info- thank you! 😀

I’m a 10 and go for 28 so seems to fit with the above.

I used to love my Levi’s. Been overweight for years though and refused to buy nice jeans. Looking at them now though (££) thanks to mounjaro and I’m overwhelmed with the fits. I used to like a 501 and I’d be 28/30 probably a 30/30 now and I’m a 12
Do you have a shop near you could try them on before ordering online

Elmo22 · 26/09/2025 14:40

I’m thinking I prob do need to try them on! It’s not just that I’ve put on weight since my previous Levi wearing days, it’s that my body has also changed shape!! Off to google stockists now.

I just bought the new 501 curve jeans. There's a sizing function to help you choose the size Levi recommend. Measure waist, lower hip and thigh.
They aren't cheap but they fit really well.
I bought them online from Levis because there are no shops near me that stock a wide range of Jeans. They arrived next day and returns are simple.

I'm a size 8 usually, I tried on some Levi's over the summer and a 26" waist fitted me, although the ones that fitted best were low rise. The mid rise ones were a bit tight, but I bet the denim would have stretched. I didn't buy them though, so can't comment further...

keepincool · 27/09/2025 07:11

Next stock Levi's. You could order a few online and try at home if your budget allows? Then it's really easy to return anything that isn't suitable to store or by collection.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 27/09/2025 07:30

I second ordering from Next to find your size. Depends on the style though as I bought several pairs of 29 waist from the Levi store and they are all too big now I’m a size 10. As a 10/12 they were comfy, now they are massive. I bought a pair of 28 waist direct from Levi online and they are really tight and a much less comfortable material.

ChickalettasGiblets · 27/09/2025 09:13

You need to bear in mind with Levi’s, that the blue ones stretch after a few wears so they recommend you size down on the waist OP. If you’re buying black ones, they tend not to be as big after wearing so buy your actual size. I’m a size 10/12 and 5ft9, and I wear a 29/30 waist in Levi’s and 32/34 leg depending on the style

Elmo22 · 27/09/2025 14:05

Thanks everyone, sounds like the sizing is inconsistent depending on style. I think I might just bite the bullet and go in to a shop to try on. We are not too far from Glasgow and there is a Levi’s shop there so I am going to plan a wee trip in. Wish I had kept my old jeans even though it would be a Herculean effort to get in to them now 😂
