My frizz in all it's glory

Or should I blow dry it smooth? It works well smooth but I usually just tie it in a clip or have an updo day to day.
It is natural colour, mousy with brighter highlights probably from sun, lots of frizzy bits, some stuck in neck of my teeshirt here so not the best pic!

No idea if this is curly or wavy, so would like some opinions, god help me, if anyone has the time Grin
Would you say the frizz is a bit too much? Am not looking for products just advice on how you'd wear it really. I've tried all the defrizz stuff and settled on what i have. I did not brush after washing and adding a light frizz cream so this is it in all it's glory.

I am not fond of the over-done look and I am very lazy so it would have to stay like this, maybe I should add a lightweight oil or serum. Or just blow dry it, lol.

It looks dry here but is actually very fine and soft to touch.

Beautiful hair, don't change it.

Woundupatwork · 23/09/2025 15:13

Lovely hair.

MNJury · 23/09/2025 15:15

That's not frizz, that is lovely natural wavy hair 😊

Halfull · 23/09/2025 15:19

It’s lovely and has a similar curl pattern to mine. I’d suggest using a sulphate free curl shampoo and conditioner, curl cream and if you want it curly, curl gel. Curl gel blew my mind when I first used it, I had memories of wet look 80s stuff but it helps control the frizz. Put it on, let it dry, then scrunch out the crunchiness. But rather than use silicone based frizz shampoo I’d try the stuff menu to hydrate instead. Good luck! I don’t think there’s too much frizz anyway but if it bothers you, try that. Sulphates are the enemy of good curls.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 23/09/2025 15:22

I think it looks lovely, just needs a trim. Mine's just a fluffy messy unless I dry it.

wavecurlnoidea · 23/09/2025 15:24

Thank you, I'd love to let it grow a bit and flow free. I don't get along with gels and mousse or any of the dedicated products, I seem to get best results using less 'stuff' iyswim?. I use a kerastase cream and it helps so will stick with that. If I had to do more work I would just blow dry it to be honest as I am stupidly low maintenance.

I'm glad it didn't make anyone yelp in horror at least!

I love it! I'm envious even though I like my hair .

Comedycook · 23/09/2025 15:26

That not my version of frizzy ..I'd post mine here if I was brave enough! I'd say you definitely have curly hair...it's lovely

wavecurlnoidea · 23/09/2025 15:27

Ah thanks!
I was thinking it might be 2C or 3A.

Oops, ignore me then. I clearly know nowt! But your hair is lovely, that's a beautiful wave. I wish mine could make up its mind to do that.

Devilsmommy · 23/09/2025 15:27

That's definitely curly and it's beautiful too

deeahgwitch · 23/09/2025 16:03

MNJury · 23/09/2025 15:15

That's not frizz, that is lovely natural wavy hair 😊

I agree.

wavecurlnoidea · 23/09/2025 16:28

Thank you, no one has ever complimented it before, unless straight.

I would love to find a sort of hairspray that locked the curl in, maybe an anti frizz hairspray, does this even exist?

ADHDHDHDHD · 24/09/2025 07:36

Tesco keronics hairspray. An accidental find. And the best hairspray ever. Give it a go.
plus your hair is not frizzy it’s wavy.
also try the umberto gianini range for curly hair. It does actually work.

Mauvehoodie · 24/09/2025 10:00

Lovely hair! I'd say it's wavy to curly. I have fairly similar hair (fine and soft but wavy/curly) and like this V05 mousse, it doesn't make your hair crispy, you don't need too much. I'd maybe use a golf ball size for your hair and try more next time if that's not enough. The bottle lasts for ages and its cheap. I scrunch in to very wet hair then scrunch out any excess water and let it dry naturally. You could really scrunch it up and get it quite curly or squeeze it straight and have it wavy - I like that my hair has quite a range of curls that I can make it do!

OP you have really lovely looking, wavy hair. Whatever you've done in this picture is working for you.

I "can't" wear my hair without tonnes of product application and lengthy diffusing or straightening, yet the end result still looks like other people's "before" pic.

I say "can't" but of course I could. But I am deeply aware of how socially unacceptable my hair is in its natural form.

Isn't that fucking crazy though?

I think it's time we (as a society) critically analyse how we think about hair. I suspect textured hair is actually more common than straight hair. I absolutely hate this obsession towards so called perfection. I think there's an unacknowledged prejudice running below the surface of it. I have noticed, when working in public facing roles, that I often get a better reception when I've straightened my hair. Even though that makes my hair less healthy and less natural.

Ah and then people always seem to want more texture and big curls for weddings and other celebrations, so perhaps we have come to see them as occasional or even a bit too fancy?

I see so many people with very curly hair these days, especially when travelling, France, Sweden, etc, that those old fears of not looking quite professional seem pretty dated now.

I love that I can wear it both ways, so always have those options.
I would ask who or what has made you feel that your hair is socially unacceptable. I really love what we can do with textured hair, even though it can be unpredictable at times. I think we often love the idea of straighter hair because it has stability, you can kind of rely on it being the same day by day, but I have never considered it to be 'neater' or more socially acceptable though.

Thanks for the kind words. I wish you could make a peace with your hair. It's all just shifting trends anyway, isn't it? Even frizz is natural, so I am often irritated when people say it means the hair is unhealthy - No no! it's just bushy! Grin

Try a hair oil when it's damp, L'Oreal Extraordinary Oil is good, use sparingly. You have beautiful hair, not frizzy at all, it's wavy.

FranticFrankie · 24/09/2025 12:26

Fellow frizzer here
Mine's resistant to all products so I feel your pain. It won't straighten either- even if I spend ages with very hot straighteners

Kerastase cream you said, OP? I'll give it a try
(last kerastase stuff I used smelled like fish though Smile)

FranticFrankie · 24/09/2025 12:26

PS your hair is lovely 😊

CharlieKirkRIP · 24/09/2025 12:30

I have very long hair and I use Vaseline from the middle to the ends to keep it looking in tip top condition.

Just a tiny dab on hands and rub hands together and then I slide hair through my hands.

wavecurlnoidea · 23/09/2025 15:27

Ah thanks!

Probably a 2A or so, looks like mine as you you probably need v lightweight products

wavecurlnoidea · 24/09/2025 13:15

Ohhh we have a tub of vaseline here, may experiment when I have a spare afternoon!

@FranticFrankie you know, I don't find products to differ that much, in fact some of the worst that have weighed my hair down are Kerastase/other expensive brands. It's totally hit or miss and that stuff is so expensive. I do think they ought to sell samples.
Head and Shoulders classic clean does wonders when it starts looking dull.
So many curly certified products were terrible for me, it's definitely a huge market now and I wonder how really different any of the expensive ones are.....even a humidity control hairspray is around £20 Shock

The worst thing I ever did was use an extra virgin olive oil mask. Took weeks to get my hair back to it's usual pattern. Coconut makes mine stringy, too.

@angelspike2025 Yes, it is very lightweight, there are curls just after washing but they drop out quickly into waves. I would need to force them to stay in and can't be bothered, it is easier to blow dry straight than to force it to curl properly. I will learn to live with some frizz!
