Black tie appropriate?

Hi all!

I have been invited to a black tie event and wanted thoughts on this dress:

Do you think the length/style is appropriate? I'm quite petite so probably will be abit longer on me than the model and I'm not very booby.

Event is with work at the Guildhall London. Dress code is "black tie/dressed to kill!" .

I’d say that’s cocktail not black tie, but they have muddied the waters by making it black tie/dress to kill.

Can you google previous years and see what women have worn?

For me that’s more cocktail dress than black tie. Black tie is usually a full length dress and a little more formal overall than this dress. However if you are young and very slim you will get away with it!

I would say that’s ok for black tie. I have been to many black tie events and the women weren’t all wearing floor length dresses at all. White tie probably does mean full length dresses though.

@Comtesse yes that's true in my experience too, I should have said I think the women wearing full length look better dressed somehow. My legs are easily my best asset (only asset) but I still go full length for black tie, especially in a beautiful old building like Guildhall.

Thanks for responses all !!

I reckon I'll go full length in this case. I just really quite liked this dress- as I'm 5ft1 I'm easily swamped so this length appealed to me.

Back to the drawing board !!!
