Winter coat recommendations

Can you help me find a decent thick winter coat. I'm becoming more nesh as I get older so I'm looking for something at least knee length preferably longer, thick but only synthetic padding no down due to allergies, must have a hood and elasticated cuffs preferably tight hidden cuffs, no light colours and ideally waterproof/resistant. I have a drying robe so but I want something more substantial. My budget is flexible but probably no more than £400ish. I don't want anything too mumsy I've looked at north face but their decent coats seem to be down filled. I feel like I'm asking the impossible I've been looking since last winter and I'm tired of having wet shoulders in my current winter coat when it rains.

I'd keep an eye on Uniqlo when the new season comes out. I've always had great coats from there.

I've looked at Uniqlo but anything that fits the bill is down filled. There's so many lovely coats that I can't wear.

That's annoying! What about a coat from a country shop. Down coats catch on brambles etc so I don't use them on very wild walks!I have a couple of coats from Musto which I love. This one looks good although I don't know if you like the colour.

I have a Seasalt one but that’s probably mumsy

TheGrimSmile · 23/09/2025 01:43

Didricksons might fit the bill. The problem is that anything practical as you describe will inevitably look a bit "mumsy" But so what?

TheGrimSmile · 23/09/2025 02:00

I have one similar to this and the quality is excellent. They are long though as they are Swedish so be careful if you are short like me.

TheGrimSmile · 23/09/2025 02:03

Wish I hadn't looked now because I really like this one...
