Formal dress

Hello,

I'm struggling to find the perfect dress and wondered if the hive mind could help. I'm looking for a formal occasion dress, for an event where I need to look great. I'm a size 16, hourglass shape and all I can find is flipping floral dresses, which tip me way too much into frumpy. Can anyone help with some suggestions, please! Budget is £250 with wiggle room and I can't wear black or white without looking like the living dead. Maxi is probably expected, but I'm open to other things too.
