Hi, first time posting here, I'm a fashion disaster. Need to look smart for a networking event 😭
Have bought this dress
Karen Millen dress
and need a jacket/throw/shawl literally just to walk in the door. Don't want to spend so I'm thinking Primark shawl? Or is that even a thing?! Or what would you suggest. Any idea welcome 🙌

What about having a look on vinted? I am not convinced a shawl from Primark will do that dress justice. What size are you looking for?

I assume you don't have a smart ish coat or anything? If you don't need it at all once you're inside if you did have a coat you could just wear that? Or do you have any friends you could borrow from if it's a one off?

RitzyMcFee · 21/09/2025 17:31

What sort of networking event? Is it during the day? I agree with @Ineffable23that if it’s inside you won’t need anything else. It will be warm with loads of people.

Sorry for being AWOL. It's starting early evening, so daylight yes. Don't have anything I can borrow. I know what you are saying about it but doing it justice. Hmm

A lovely decent quality pashmina worn with panache to cover your shoulders will look lovely.

A touch of cashmere lends class.

I have a cape, not costumesque, just from Zara that you can wrap around your shoulders and have open that looks quite smart. A pashmina could work silk is cheaper than cashmere.

What size are you? I don't mind trying to do a vinted travel. Have you got enough time to wait for something from there?

Acunningruse · 22/09/2025 08:14

A shawl doesn’t sound very practical for a work event, you would need a hand free to hold it in place surely which doesn’t seem practical. A navy blazer seems like the obvious choice.

Opinionsprettyplease · 22/09/2025 16:44

Thanks for the comments. I'm not sure if I have enough time to wait for something from vined, it's in 8 days.
I'm not worried about wearing it during the event, it's literally to wear walking up the street and in the door, after that I'll take it off.
Dress arrived today and I LOVE it 🥰
Thank you for all the help 👍

Tbh I’d just get a boxy navy cardigan from next or even primark, will get lots of wear out of it I should think

Twoshoesnewshoes · 22/09/2025 21:54

Here’s one in H&M, collared, nice

DiscoNights · 23/09/2025 00:29

I’d wear a black fur stole with that. The type that sits on the shoulders and fastens with a ribbon or a hook and eye.

I reckon any of these would be a better option than a cheap shawl though depends if you know how they fit you. I'd message the sellers before and explain the date and ask if they will be able to post straight away.

Thank you! I really like the last one 😍
