I am going to a family wedding soon at a nice venue and would like to wear a Reiss Navy dress with navy Hobbs jacket (Hobbs jacket is slightly darker than the dress - does that matter? I don’t want to look too matchy matchy). Bridal party are in morning suits if that helps for level of formality.

Or should I go for a contrasting bag and shoes? I haven’t bought the bag and shoes yet. Is it a complete no no to wear black shoes with navy? I think it is but just wondering.

I haven’t bought shoes and handbag yet and was hoping to use something I already own but the bag I have that might be suitable is black.
I haven’t been to a wedding since before Covid and wondering if dress codes have changed at all. Was thinking maybe cream shoes and a cream bag or go for brights??

i am mid 40s, size 12 and 5 ft 4. Have quite wide feet! Can only do mid heel. Classic dresser overall. Sorry lots of questions here!! Thanks in advance.

I’m no fashionista but definitely wouldn’t do black with navy.

Maybe cream, or silver?

I think black shoes and bag might look a bit office wear. I would probably go for silver or a contrast colour - maybe yellow or hot pink. It's a lovely dress!

I attended a wedding today. A guest was wearing a very similar outfit to the one you describe with a yellow hat and yellow and navy checked shoes. She looked very stylish and it was not a combo I would have expected. (She carried a navy bag with a lemon bag charm which I thought was quite fun as well!)

Thank you. Some great ideas already. Yes, I think contrasting shoes and bag would work well. I like the idea of silver and actually have some silver shoes that may work. Also, the bright Mary Janes are great and @Peakypolly the lady you saw sounds stylish yet fun. Will have a think. Don’t have £££ but would like to feel elegant and somewhat stylish - planning on giving £100 to bridal couple too as they have asked for honeymoon contributions which is a priority for me and more important than a new handbag for me!! .. 💕

Oh, I love the sound of the blue and lemon yellow outfit!

The dress is lovely OP, you will look great! Hope you have a brilliant time 😊

Lovely dress, and I think you could definitely find some nice accessories on eBay or Vinted to contrast. Cream/nude or silver or hot pink would work well and yellow is a fab idea too.
