What do you wear to a daytime party these days?

Been invited to a 60th birthday party in London, it’s during the day but at a fairly trendy restaurant. I’m clueless! Default wear is jeans; don’t usually feel comfortable in dresses and never wear skirts. Usually wfh so wardrobe is largely suitable for that plus the odd day in the office. Anyone any suggestions please? I hate standing out but feel really uncomfortable if I get the clothes wrong. Help!

I would most likely wear smart trousers. I have a couple of nice wide legged ones that look good with heeled bits or flats and a top.

Or if I did wer jeans I would dress them up a bit instead of my usual t shirt and trainers!

I do have a mid length denim skirt i often wear in these sort of in between moments too but sounds like thats not your thing?

I would wear a jumpsuit

Thanks for the suggestions - I think I need to hit the shops. I like the idea of wide-leg trousers but always struggle with proportions and shoes. Also, if it rains, they get wet and flappy which puts me off! I don’t think I’d get the use from a jumpsuit - ideally it needs to be something I can re-purpose and use again.

I can't wear wide leg trousers they are not for everyone , honestly id just wear some straight leg trousers and maybe a blazer, your top doesn't have to be to fancy then.

Straight leg trousers and a blazer I can do - will likely look as if I’m headed to the office though, so maybe need to think about shoes.

You could wear any shoes you fancy really,

I’d wear a short sleeved cashmere top, several chains (layering), a chunky bracelet, have my nails done and my hair blow dried, or cut, depending on what you think would work best for you.
You’ll be sitting down mostly, so trousers/shoes are not on show most of the time anyway. For shoes I have square toe flats in red, black and silver, I’d grab one of those.

Thank you - good point about being seen from waist up only!

My cashmere short sleeved top is a mushroom brown one from White Company. I tend to wear it with a tulle skirt in roughly the same colour, more towards pink I think.
I wear silver chunky jewellery anyway, but I add a couple more necklaces. Burgundy nails would look nice I think.

How old are you? I'm mid 40s and would look like my grandmother in a get up like that.

😂 I definitely don’t. What do you wear?

Well, it’s a 60th birthday party - I’m not quite there yet, but heading rapidly towards it!
