Who’s in?

I have so much stuff to sell.

I have too many clothes. So I don’t wear any of it, because I’m overwhelmed. Less would definitely be more for me. If I could see all my clothes hanging up nicely I could actually see what I have and figure out what to wear. 50% needs to go.

I am holding on to old high heeled shoes as they remind me of a time I was young, attractive, worked in the City and had the world at my feet. I never wear them now, but struggle to get rid.

Please come and join me as I try to create wardrobe space & raise funds for Christmas.

I’m successful at Vinted selling here are my tips:

Good photos in good light against a plain pale background. Photo from all angles and photo labels

For women’s clothes top end of high street sell best eg Reiss, Whistles, Hobbs, Mint Velvet, Jigsaw, Sezane. Or anything quite on trend eg I’ve sold a few Passenger items easily for good prices as the brand is quite in demand right now. Same for Lucy and Yak or other things that have “cult” followings

For stuff like M&S, Next, H&M, supermarket I price at £3 or £2 unless it’s something very current / high fashion

Older or dated items needed to be priced cheap (unless they are “vintage”) . My friend was trying to sell as Reiss dress for £50 on the basis it was £150 new. But it was 15 years old. I would sell that for £5 or £8. I take the view if I’m never going to wear it again I might as well have £5 rather than a dress taking up space & cluttering my house.

Agree with above posters about listing similar items at the same time eg I list all my 5 year old girls clothes on the same day as buyers like to use the bundle feature & save on postage

I think you have to accept people won’t pay lots on Vinted. But small sums add up

I’m lucky I live very close to InPost & Evri & Royal Mail lockers so I post on my daily walk so I’m not wasting time making special journeys

Right you’ve all convinced me-I’m going to try and sell stuff too!

B0D · 19/09/2025 22:13

I’ve bought only once Vinted but never sold. I find the information and photos are often minimal and if I can’t see enough I’m reluctant to ask. I still prefer EBay and only sell on there

Re @anon2022anon comments about funds. Earlier this year I forgot to withdraw my money and it got to over £200 before I realised. When I tried to send it to my bank, Vinted said there was an issue and it took days of back and forth and re-proving my identity and sending more ID to them before they would release my money.

I'm another who's lost a boat load of weight and needs a new wardrobe as well as clearing out the bigger stuff. I've been buying from Vinted as I've gone along and resold as I've shrunk out of things. I'm selling a lot of Sahara, Gudrun Sjoden, Seasalt and similar and found that they sell well for decent prices.

I've not had any bad experiences save the woman who bought a Levi's trucker jacket from me then complained it was a fake because it had labels with Chinese writing on them. I sent pics of labels like that from pairs of jeans bought directly from Levi's and she then moaned that I hadn't said that it was stretch denim and that she wasn't prepared to pay for something that had been missold to her. I suspect she was after a discount but I said to send it back. She did and I relisted and sold for the same price within a couple of hours. When I checked the label it was 98% cotton and 2% elastane and there was barely any stretch to it.

I do enjoy buying from Vinted, especially as I'm still working out how to dress my new body! I like the happenstance of finding a gem you weren't looking for or something I've been coveting but not going to buy retail because I'm not sure it will suit me, like the Hush Millie tulle skirt that I bought NWT for £25 the other week. I might not wear it often but at that price I don't mind so much.

TheCosyViewer · 20/09/2025 13:44

I’ve had a big clear out of clothes recently and sold quite a bit on Vinted, obviously sold for a lot, lot less than what I paid for them, but the relief of having them out of the house. These were clothes that I bought, telling myself they would fit perfectly when I lost 7 lbs or clothes that I didn’t wear any more because I had bought nicer, etc. Over several weeks, I tried everything on to decide whether to keep or not. Did I need it, would I really ever wear it again, now that it fits - am I going to wear it, does it really suit me, etc etc.

Then to selling. I find certain brands sell well, others not so much. For me Sezane, Cos, Jigsaw, Mint Velvet and Uniqlo sell well. Higher end jeans sell well too. BUT all for low enough pricing. Sezane seems to hold value enough well but needs to be priced under £50. £25 for jeans and most else in the £10 to £20 range. If things don’t sell after a few weeks, they go to the charity shop. I’ve very honest with the listings and describe exactly as is. I list the fabric composition and photograph the labels. I seldom accept offers and for items under £15, I don’t answer queries any more because it’s just too much hassle to measure under arm seams or length of a jacket, type up a reply and don’t even get a thanks. Keep things to season, summer clothes won’t sell now.

Ive been using Vinted for a while, one tip that works for me is using the app to take the photos. They aren’t saved to your camera roll (which for me is good as I have so many photo and end up having to declutter them!) As others have said, doing a few items daily helps the algorithms, as does interacting with the app in general, favouriting items etc.

measureofmydreams · 20/09/2025 21:32

I'v accumulated a lot of stuff to sell, the thing that puts me off is whether I need access to a printer for a postage label? many thanks

Septemberchill · 20/09/2025 21:44

I've sold a load of stuff on vinted and always use the Inpost boxes with a digital label. However,in the last couple of days I've had a couple come through with only a printable label (and absolute pain in the arse imo) with no choice to get a digital label. Any idea why this happens? Anyone else have this?

lovehatesummer · 20/09/2025 22:19

@Septemberchill the buyer's selected the Inpost home delivery option perhaps? I've disabled that one as I don't have a printer.

@measureofmydreams you can select the postage options that don't require printing in your profile

I've sold various pieces in the past but have taken a bit of a break, am inspired to start again now!

It’s when people want them sent to their home address I think

Septemberchill · 22/09/2025 13:56

The 2 items that I've sent for home delivery (that were sent via a shop collection point rather than an inpost box) have 'contact retailer' on the tracking info. This is on the inpost app. Anyone any idea what that means?

LadyClumber · 22/09/2025 16:03

I’m in. I have dropped 2 dress sizes after 5 years of creeping weight gain so have LOADS of stuff to sell. Have had some success already with higher end brands (eg Me+Em) and new / nearly new mid to high high street stuff (eg Whistles, Autograph, Jigsaw). Have bought some gorgeous bits as well, but have had a couple of duds.

I am a bit confused as to what ‘New without tags’ means on Vinted, though. I assumed it meant clothes that had NEVER been worn but the sales tags had been removed? However, I have received BNWT items with food stains, bobbling and even holes! Have also seen items advertised as BNWT but the photos show it being worn at a special event, evening out, etc? I have sold a few things which I only have worn twice but described these as VGC, not BNWT, albeit I made it clear in the description that they had only been worn twice. Have I been shortchanging myself?

HeidiLite · 22/09/2025 18:12

Yes unfortunately BNWoT seems to generally mean worn items in reasonable condition. Obviously not how it's meant to be used.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 29/09/2025 19:49

I had a sort out of my coats recently and sold 3 coats within minutes of listing! Very satisfying! I didn’t price them high, I just wanted them gone and something is better than the nothing I have got out of them being stuck in my wardrobe for a few years!

I also had some success selling some cardigans that are now too big, some other jackets and some Uniqlo shirts.

I’m definitely going to keep going, have so many clothes that are far too big now and will otherwise go in a charity bag. Those that don’t sell will still go in the charity bag so there will be plenty going that way too.

I am addicted to buying too unfortunately. My new slimmer winter wardrobe is almost exclusively vinted😂

bugalugs45 · 29/09/2025 20:03

I have a weird issue where it upsets me to sell something for £2-£3 when I know how much it cost me originally . even tho I know i will never wear it again, and i’m not desperate for cash either . I do sell on Vinted but it pains me , am I the only one ? lol

I have noticed this too, NWOT often seems to mean the item has been worn once, if you can believe that! Very good condition can also mean dire condition too. I've returned one item that was classed as excellent condition but was in a terrible mess, I was relieved to find the refund was made quickly although the seller denied the problems despite photos of the stairs, marks etc and stated she had excellent feedback. Vinted dealt with it speedily.
I've also received a few items I've just binned. I'm more careful now about purchasing but still sell occasionally.

BadAmbassador · 30/09/2025 09:02

I’m in an unpleasant situation where I sold a relatively expensive item - over £50, which relative to my other sales is a lot, and the person didn’t receive it. They received an old grubby piece of clothing but my postage label had been stuck on the parcel. Vinted has been pondering over it for a few days but I’m pretty sure they are going to come back and say they can’t prove I posted the actual item and so are going to refund the buyer’s money. Which is reasonable but I won’t actually have my expensive item either 😭
I’ve been the buyer in this scenario which is how I know how it plays out.
wasn’t Inpost locker btw, which at least I could understand.
Someone has intentionally done this but I doubt they will be traced.

HeidiLite · 30/09/2025 09:45

@BadAmbassador that sounds really odd - do you think the buyer is lying and claiming they received the shoddy item? Sounds more believable than someone randomly swapping out contents of packages.
Was it your own original packaging?
Happened to me twice that I received a different item, one was a similar but not the same necklace and one a sweater instead of trousers, but both sellers said they mixed up the packages.

nearly61 · 30/09/2025 12:57

Did you by any chance take any photos or video of you packing it? I was caught out in a slightly different way but now take a video of me packing any expensive (over 30 is expensive for me!) items then deleting it afterwards. I feel for you - it’s very frustrating as it’s hard to price your innocence. I hope things work out for you x

BadAmbassador · 30/09/2025 20:39

@HeidiLite that hadn’t occurred to me actually! But I don’t think so, they sent photos of the parcel/item/packaging.
I could see that my label had been printed twice and stuck on this parcel, I don’t see how they could have done that. How could anyone have done it, for that matter? Unless they work for Evri! No not my packaging at all.
@nearly61 no, I only wish I had photos - have learned my lesson with that one. The packages were very very different in size.
Thanks for the good wishes!

Trinner · 30/09/2025 22:37

Never done this before. Where do you buy the postage bags - and how do you calculate and do postage without a printer?
