Scrunch dry hair v birds nest hair

I have tried to scrunch dry my hair which is on the curly side and end up with a birds nest rather than a beautiful head of curls. What do people do to make it look nice? I have slathered on the products.

I use salt spray, works much better when my hair is around shoulder length or shorter too.

highly recommend Kitsch air dry cream with a good leave in conditioner.

Can you explain exactly what you've done so we can identify any tweaks?

I wash my hair. brush it while soaking wet paying attention to the roots (you kind of want to lift up the roots) then i scrunch gently with a tshirt leaving it still really wet but not dripping, do mousse in a scrunching motion and then curl gel in a more praying hands motion (look up a video of this it's hard to describe) then another lighter layer of mousse. Hasn't failed me yet.

Here's an article on the mousse gel mousse method https://www.buzzfeed.com/claudiasantos/viral-mousse-gel-mousse-method-curly-hair

That frizz you keep complaining about is probably just a curl waiting to happen.

Thank you, all of you. @bigwhitedog i wonder is it a techniques thing then. I scrunch with my hands. The kids looked appalled when they came in from school. “Have you seen your hair?”

Invest in a silk bonnet! I step. Out of the shower, run the leave in conditioner through my still dripping hair, then plop. It into my bonnet. Put a towel on my pillow, go to sleep and wake up in the morning 🌞
