I keep seeing people in these lovely looking soft rubbery rain coats and hoping someone can direct me to one that won't bankrupt me!. Can spend up to £100 new or 2nd hand that ticks all the boxes:

Not too thick /heavy lined
Soft & rubbery
Decent hood
Fully waterproof
Knee length
Not black - navy or khaki would be good but others considered

Rains do many colours and they’re unlined. You can often find discounts via other retailers - I bought DP one off some country clothing site, half the price of brand site.

I have a lovely Sweaty Betty one in navy which matches your criteria exactly but it's over budget new but you may be lucky and find a secondhand one. I'll look for a link!

This one looked good in store in beige.

LOVE the SB one and added an alert on Vinted but sadly new is out of my price range. I'm going to pop into my local sainsburys and see if they've got that one in navy (beige just not practical for me) and check out the Rains ones as I do need something ASAP.

I have a lovely one from Ilse Jacobsen, they are more like £150 new but quite a few in VGC on Vinted.

This is nice https://www.dunnesstores.com/pu-waterproof-rain-jacket-8847811/p?skuId

Zara do them, but I find mine too hot

ihavespoken · 15/09/2025 16:51

I got Sainsbury's Tu one last year (different design to last year but same material as you describe) and it has been fab. I've got it with me at work today as it's pissing it down!

I love the stutterheim coats- ticks all the boxes & totally waterproof & loads of different colours. Go on vinted or eBay though as they are around £200 new. Bought one to walk the dog in off there last week for £20.

I really like that one but despite saying it delivers to UK it won't accept my postcode or mobile number so assume they don't.

@mutleyschuckles they are lovely - all £££ in my size a the moment but added another vinted alert

I got one from M&S last year cream with a quilted lining has a hood & comes down nearly to my ankles (I’m very short though) was about £70.00 should imagine they would have them again this year.

Ive got a Rains. Remember they are designed for tall straight Scandinavians with long arms. Mine struggles to button over my ango salon bum and I have to roll the sleeves up.

Oh thanks for that I'm classic English pear so might give that one a miss!

I saw some when I was passing through New Look yesterday, loads of different colours and I would guess well within budget. I did wonder how breathable they would be though?

I like mine. I got it last year in the sale so it was a bargain. It can be a bit hot though! But I only paid £20 so I can mr complain too much

ViaRia01 · 17/09/2025 21:07

@raisingthebarbell i wouldn’t rule out Rains altogether but be cautious with shape/ size.

I just got mine (£50ish from BrandAlley) and I couldn’t decide between the straight cut unisex style or the a-line women’s style. I went either straight in the end and I do love it but I have to admit it is very broad on the shoulder (fits my husband nicely on his broad shoulders!) with long arms and a little less room than I’d like around the bum/ thigh. I’m size 14-ish and I guess slightly pear shaped.

If/ when I buy again I’d try a-line although I’m not fussed enough about it to exchange it.
