Desperate to find mother of the groom clothes

My eldest son gets married in March next year and I’m really excited about it. It’s going to be a small wedding (around 50 people) and the event is taking place at the same venue (ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening celebrations).

But I am getting quite stressed! I really don’t know what to wear! The mother of the bride has copied my son’s suit colours and will look elegant in a velvet sheath dress. Meanwhile I am totally clueless. Help!!!
I’m 5’6”, a slim mid fifties woman with shoulder length hair, size 12. I have no cleavage 🙈, need to cover my upper arms and, even though I’m slim (no love handles etc), I have a lower tummy bump that won’t go away - honestly I’ve dieted, exercised (run regularly) but I’m stuck with it after four children. I am told that I suit “warm” colours (smoky tints), not pastels at all.
The wedding party and flowers are faun, cream, burgundy, apricot. We’re eating curry wraps so I don’t want a pale outfit just in case.
I tried this dress

but I was unhappy with the tummy bump in profile. It did cover everything else that I don’t like about me.
I feel like going in a big baggy sack.
What would you suggest?
My absolute limit is £300 as I need to fix up the rest of us with clothes. I don’t mind buying on eBay.

Finally, just for the sake of it - what I'd probably wear:

These trousers, £179. I'd get some sort of satiny top to wear with, maybe in old gold or a leopard print (or anything that looks 'special occasion').

I wish I’d never seen these! They’re the dream trouser shape from my imagination, but just a bit out of budget.

Edited

Jasper Conran do decent discounts in their sales so keep an eye on it. I got one of their shirt dresses for pretty well half price last year.

I’ve been a mother of the groom and the bride in six months this year, Hobbs was my friend, so many compliments, I felt a million dollars. Occasion dresses. Go for a “you” dress not one under the “mother of…” header.

My mum and MiL both bought their dresses (with jacket/bolero, fascinators and shoes) from Hobbs! They both looked very different but lovely - and had a fab day out together to boot. Based on their experience (and appearance!) I'd recommend you have a look at least!

Have a look at this amazing shop I have locally and you can see the brands they sell https://thequeenb.co.uk/

Also don't be afraid to search for the brands on vinted. If you really want a bargain remember these outfits are worn for one day!

My friend was MOG recently and she wore a brand I’d never heard of before, Kevan Jon, and looked absolutely stunning. There’s lots on Vinted.

I follow a shop called Snooty Frox on Instagram. I think they are based in Harrogate.

They seem to have some lovely dresses.

Also my friend has just attended her sons summer wedding. Her beautiful MOG dress was from Roman.

OMG, it's the Dallas TV series wardrobe!
Couldn't find a pic of Bobby Ewing stepping out of the shower.
The customer photos are very sweet 😊

Monsoon is fantastic has a wedding section

There are lots of mother of the bride/groom groups on facebook for inspiration and also people selling previously worn outfits too which may help you narrow down the style you want and also links to suitable stockists.

Personally, I’d be picking the burgundy colour out of the wedding colours.

Bit late to the advisory party, but as someone of similar age weight height and build to you, I wanted to recommend trying this shapewear - but, and this is crucial, in one size up from your usual size. That way, it smooths and feels supportive rather than restrictive. Not at all uncomfortable and unlike suck it all in knickers, it doesn’t dig in at the waist or roll down. And you have free choice of bra. Honestly, if I wear this one day, I miss the supportiveness of it the next day. It reminds me of my own wedding dress shopping - trying on those lovely corseted, boned dresses then getting back into my own clothes, I felt like I had melted and gone droopy! Also, wearing this will make lower-priced (eg unlined) dresses sit and flow much better.

On dresses, have a look at Hope and Ivy, often stocked by local boutiques. Some are overly patterned but there are some lovely, beautifully shaped ones with appliqué embroidery, which I think would be beautiful as a mother of outfit, with a hat picking out the colours.

My final thought is on shoes. If you are used to wearing heels all day, ignore this! But, again, just my opinion, the longer the dress, the lower a shoe you can get away with. So with a midaxi dress, you can wear whatever heel you want in the day and if you feel your feet will ache later, get yourself a pair of soft pretty flats to change into in the evening. Flats with a formal shorter dress can look odd, but I think they look just fine with a longer dress.

@WhitestShadeofPale this is such great advice. My DD wore shapewear under her bridesmaid’s dress and it elevated the outfit completely. She is slim but the material was very thin and it smoothed out the silhouette perfectly. She also sized up so she wasn’t uncomfortable. I didn’t believe that I wouldn’t be uncomfortable so I didn’t bother but wish I had.
