Tights brands recommendations?

I'm in desperate need of new tights but the old brands I used to wear have gone rubbish. I prefer thick cotton/ wool or for when it's really cold thermal is okay.

I used to buy Pretty Polly but they don't seem to have the range any more.
White Stuff - noticed the online reviews mention a drop in quality.
Charnos - I had a good pair I bought a few years ago which are worn to death, recently ordered a similar fabric pair in a bigger size than previously to be on the safe side and they are smaller then the smaller size! (the others weren't stretched out - I've always bought things on the looser side, comfort is really important to me)

I once bought some M&S tights in M/L when I was a 10 when I found the smaller size too tight and the only difference with the M/L was that the legs were longer!

Currently I'm a UK 12 though have been a 10 my whole life and am aiming to get back to that. In any event - even if I were a 10 now I think I'd find it difficult to find comfy tights that don't garotte you and make you feel like a sausage in a skin. Help!

John Lewis might be worth a look as well as the hosiery section in TK Maxx.

PoliteRaven · 13/09/2025 15:37

I got some control tights at Lidl that lasted for years. Annoyingly I haven't seen them since!

PoliteRaven · 13/09/2025 15:46

Annoying when they discontinue things you like!

Falke tights are great. Collégien tights are even better.

I second Snag - they do merino wool tights which are as warm as any regular trousers for winter.

hakunamatata20 · 13/09/2025 15:48

Another vote for Snag!

PoliteRaven · 13/09/2025 16:03

@CatAsstrophe oh I had a thing about Falke socks years ago - will have a look at their tights as well.

I am tempted by the wool ones they could be an alternative to my falling-to-pieces Pretty Polly 300 denier fleece ones.

Seasalt

MrsMattSantos · 13/09/2025 17:02

either snag or better tights - the modal tights from there are the biz

Hackedoffinoldage · 13/09/2025 17:24

Another vote for Snag. Their bras are very comfy too!

Cookie105 · 13/09/2025 17:51

Definitely Snag, you’ll never go back!!

RuthW · 13/09/2025 18:20

Popsy or Snag

JillMW · 13/09/2025 18:33

Calzedonia. Beautiful fit and font roll or slip down.

Catpandapuffin · 13/09/2025 18:58

I only wear Snag tights nowadays. So different from their cheap competitors.

Gardenroomdoom · 13/09/2025 18:59

Have snag stopped promoting the strangulation of women?

hipposcanweartutus · 13/09/2025 19:57

Snag tights are fabulous! I am about to order some more as the ones I bought last year as far too big thanks to mounjaro! They are quite dear but they last and last!

Why don’t you have a look if you’re interested?

Can you elaborate? This comment doesn't ring any bells for me and I've never noticed anything anti woman on the Snag website (admittedly I shop from an overseas version of their website which isn't in English, so maybe it's different?) but I don't want to give my money to misogynistic companies.

I've googled it and see now that they marketed dodgy "patches" (not sure what patches are but presumably sew on things??) saying "choke me" and then doubled down when called out. My search also dredged up questionable advertising choices. hmm. Not great.

I've never seen any of that when actually shopping on their website - all the models modelling women's underwear and tights on the version of the website for the country I live in are biological women - the only men are wearing hoodies in the general clothing section, and there's nothing especially sexualised or kinky beyond fishnet tights and stockings/ hold ups nor any childish styling.

It definitely looks as though they've made some questionable choices in the past, or perhaps in certain marketplaces though.
