Do you store your 'out of season' clothes?

And if so how/where do you store them? My wardrobes are heaving and I think I need to start putting my summer clothes away for the next 8 months or so. I've never found vacuum bags to be hugely successful as they always seem to be a bit rubbish. Any recommendations?

I have a small hand luggage case where I put dresses I will only wear on a summer holiday. There are about 10 things in it!
Other than that, everything is in my wardrobe.
But suitcases generally could be used for this kind of thing.

Gowlett · 12/09/2025 22:36

I do the suitcase. Holiday clothes, bikinis & flip flops etc…
My summer dresses can go in suitcase too. And sun hats.

unsync · 12/09/2025 22:37

I use Parkla storage bags from IKEA.

Makemineacosmo · 12/09/2025 22:37

I have so much stuff though and only two suitcases, there also quite bulky. I need to have a clear out really and more importantly, I need to stop buying new stuff!

I also use a suitcase. I’ve just put my summery tops and holiday clothes back in there and taken 6 or 7 thick jumpers out. Everything else stays in my wardrobe year round.

I do need to have a proper wardrobe declutter though, there are things in there I haven’t worn for years (but still might… one day)

TheOGCCL · 12/09/2025 22:39

I just have a small launderette bag in a cupboard which is fuller in summer as my winter things are bulkier. I always feel like I have a lot of clothes but maybe not.

yorkshirebird2382 · 12/09/2025 22:44

I have started doing a big change over of clothes. Ive just put my summer clothes away and got my autumn and winter clothes out. Its been nice as I forget what I have and it's nice getting it back out! I store it in an ikea bag under our bed

TheChosenTwo · 12/09/2025 22:46

Yeah maybe you have too much stuff!
Mostly my summer clothes are also fine for a warm spring/autumn day with an additional layer top and/or bottom - shorts with a sweatshirt or a tshirt with jeans.
I have a very small selection of clothes that I will literally only just wear when I’m abroad as they’re just a bit more casual or showing more of my skin than I’d feel comfortable doing at tescos! So those are the ones that go properly away in a small hand luggage until the next time I go away.
I keep T-shirts etc in my normal wardrobe as I can wear them all through the year just with layers.

pinkpony88 · 12/09/2025 22:49

Yes I vacuum pack them and put them in the ottoman bed. Love getting them out each season as it’s like new stuff I’d forgotten about! 🤭

TeeBee · 12/09/2025 22:53

I’ve got a large hamper for mine.

LetsTryAgainNowThen · 12/09/2025 23:11

No. In similar circumstances I went through my wardrobe and aggressively culled anything I no longer wear and that made space for everything.

I also had a "maybe" pile. After two years I only retrieved two things from it.

Belladog1 · 12/09/2025 23:17

My spare room bed has 4 big drawers in the base, so my autumn/winter clothes are currently in the drawers. I do swap them over and pack away my spring/summer clothes.

I'll be doing it this weekend.

ThePoshUns · 12/09/2025 23:26

Suitcase in the loft

BourgeoisBabe · 12/09/2025 23:28

Ottoman bed, change winter for summer and vice versa

mumofoneAloneandwell · 12/09/2025 23:29

Loft x

BourgeoisBabe · 12/09/2025 23:29

I find my Ottoman really ugly but so useful I've decided to just live with it

Tinymrscollings · 12/09/2025 23:34

I use a plastic storage box (35l I think) for my summer clothes and then 3 of them for my autumn/winter stuff. I have a LOT of coats and jackets. I have another 35L shoes and bags box that I swap SS and AW in and out of. They live in the loft and I get them down to swap in autumn and spring. Autumn appropriate stuff goes in the wardrobe and the big coats, thermals etc under the bed to be swapped with the lighter coats as winter proper arrives and leaves. Same with the spring/high summer stuff. I like less choice day to day and this system works for me.

Crispynoodle · 13/09/2025 00:12

Luckily all my children have flown the nest and I have four more bedrooms which have wardrobes……😬

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 13/09/2025 01:01

Yes stored in the loft in suitcases

endingintiers · 13/09/2025 01:16

In the loft in IKEA Parkla bags. I swap over twice a year. It gives me more space in the wardrobe, plus I think certain colours, cuts and fabrics look best on me in particular seasons. It also gives me a chance to take stock and get rid of things I haven’t worn much before packing away. And I get to see old friends when I unpack them again!

BatshitCrazyWoman · 13/09/2025 06:31

I store out of season clothes in these bags from Lakeland https://www.lakeland.co.uk/24143/lakeland-vacuum-clothes-and-duvet-storage-tote-bag-87l-jumbo

I store the bags on the shelf in the spare bedroom wardrobe. I also hang my coats in that wardrobe in the summer.

I need to swap out my clothes - I was very chilly yesterday and have a rail filled with sleeveless tops in my wardrobe 😂

carawaysee · 13/09/2025 06:36

I used to store them, but it was a big effort to get the wrinkles out again. I now have an extra wardrobe and the autumn/winter clothes stay out all year round.

youalright · 13/09/2025 06:40

I bought storage bags of amazon and they go at the bottom of the wardrobe

HazelBeeZee · 13/09/2025 06:41

I second the Lakeland bags. I put all the seasons clothes in them, then in a large cupboard. As with other posters it’s a great chance to go through everything at the end of the season and it feels like you’ve got a whole new wardrobe after not seeing items every day.

Sanch1 · 13/09/2025 06:41

I don’t have enough clothes to need to worry about it! They all stay in the wardrobe or drawers they live in all year round.
