Hi,

Posting on behalf of my mum, whose hair is very patchy after cancer treatment. She has decided to get herself a wig, but has no idea where to go. Does it need to be fitted by a stylist, cut to style etc? She called Macmillan and said she was told she could get a second hand wig sent in the post?? But she is thinking she needs to go to a salon. She normally has short grey quite thick and curly hair. Any advice much appreciated, thank you .

I live in London and when having chemo I was referred to a NHS wig dept .
I believe it was subsided but had to pay approx £100.
I think it was also possible to take a voucher that you could use towards the cost of a wig from another supplier.
Where I live there are a lot of shops selling wigs. They are mainly black hair but I recently went with a friend with chemo hair loss .
The owner bent over backwards to find an appropriate one and we got an excellent wig very cheaply.
£15 reduced from £40.

Does she have a cancer nurse? When I went through chemo a wig fitter came to the chemo unit and we were able to have a fitting with them and were able to choose a wig from them. I can’t remember if there was a cost limit.
