Smart rain proof hat

Looking for some inspiration if anyone has any advice.

Throughout summer I have started walking either to or from the train station to my office in London. The walk is about 4 miles. I carry a rucksack with my laptop/work shoes etc in.

Now that we are moving into Autumn/ Winter I want to continue but I don’t like carrying umbrellas and think it will hinder my route march. So I’m thinking a smart waterproof hat but not sure what type to go for which won’t look ridiculous - I wear a suit and long winter coat (eg Hobbs).

anybody got any ideas?

Look for golf waterproof hats. I have a lovely navy blue bucket hat that is both waterproof and warm
Not worn it for golf but do wear it to walk on my walk home from work

Head for a riding gear and clothing retailer, they should have some stylish waxed hats that will go with your Hobbs coat!

Thank you all - I particularly love the weavers of Ireland hat. I do have a trilby but want sure if it was too ‘country’.

I’ve googled smart waterproof headwear and bizarrely it came up with this plastic see through scarf thing….

Hicks and Brown hats, many of them are water proof as they’re made for country sports/pursuits. I have a couple of different colours and they go from Barbour to smart wool coat easily!

Great thread. I’m on the lookout for a waterproof hat too.

I don't think this is going to be what you're after but I've just seen an article about how to stay stylish in the rain, and it recommended a Barbour waxed baseball cap that I think I might get for winter dog walking and sport watching.

There are some other ideas too that might be helpful though:

This?
It is actually unisex, as I think one can imagine.

I love it…. I may even just get it to walk into the office one day - they all think I’m bonkers walking ‘so’ far 🙄- have to say I love it - much better than being stuck on the tube……

This might not be your taste (I like a bit of a Balmoral vibe) but I’ve just made myself a waxed cotton rain hood after seeing this Plumo one and thinking ‘I like that but £98!!!’.

It actually used a lot of fabric so the price wasn’t quite as outrageous as it looked. But easy to make once I’d figured out the shape and size. I wore it in a downpour this week and it.slipped a couple of times (still working out how to fix that) but otherwise performed well.

Edited as I forgot the Plumo link:

Good on you. I found it very meditative and therapeutic to walk to or from work, my walk was just over 2 miles but it helped me clear my head and a nice relaxing buffer between work and home life. Exercise is magic!
