Box dyeing grey hair

Has anyone done this successfully?
I have patchy grey hair, more salt than pepper. I’d like to go back to mid/light brown.
Please tell me your successes and disappointments

Yes I regularly do it - I would suggest not putting colour on the roots until the last 15 mins so you don’t get different colours on the roots ( it’s newer hair and takes the colour quicker) L’Oréal does a nice box colour x

I did this in lockdown. The colour didn't take on a lot of the grey, and thank god we were made to isolate as it looked bloody awful. I ended up buying some Paul Mitchell clarifying shampoo 3 and thankfully that helped get it out. I wore a hat outside that summer...

Honestly, it's risky. I have now gone completely grey, and luckily it's about 4 differing shades of grey so looks highlighted!

I dye my roots with a box root dye as I've got the grey halo. They need doing every 4 weeks and there's no way I can afford the hairdresser that often. I get a medium brown which fits in with my natural colour.

I’ve been box dying my roots for years because I was too busy to visit a hairdresser or arrange for one to visit me

I only do the roots never the rest of the hair. It looks completely natural or so I’m told

my hair is naturally dark blonde but I dye it a few shades lighter

I only ever use box dye. I use a different shade each time so it becomes multi tonal

I use Nice N Easy permanent light ash brown. It's a light to medium brown dye that covers greys, and I have a lot of grey now. I put it on grey areas around temple first then my roots, then the rest of my hair. I leave it on 35 minutes and I'm happy with the results. It's cheap and effective. I put the dye on then file my nails whilst I wait.
