Style a skirt for me?

Hi!

I have this skirt from Zara. I like it and it's a flattering fit, but I'm not sure what to team it up with. I'd love some inspiration! What would you wear with it, for a smart-casual look? Pictures or links with examples would be great.

(I'm not going to get away with a vest like the one the model wears...)

I'm 5'4, dark hair, size 8, 40 years old. Currently revamping wardrobe!

Oh hang on. Here's the vest, so you can see what I was whittering on about.

That’s a beautiful skirt. Would it work with chunky knitwear and boots for autumn, or a leather biker jacket to offset the softness of the skirt?

DrEggman95 · 29/08/2025 20:36

I've got biker boots, chunky tan chelsea boots, and chunky plain black brogues and I was thinking that any of these could work as an offset. Yes maybe knitwear and just a plain long sleeve t-shirt under?

Royal blue or teal might be good? Brown looks good in the image and it's on trend, but chocolate brown like that isn't a great colour for me. Navy and white also tend to wash me out.

I like the idea of teal, or how about an olive green?

Screamingabdabz · 29/08/2025 20:43

It’s gorgeous. I’d wear that with a thin knit v neck and suede boots.

Probably black. But a dark purple would work too.

Oh my god that’s gorgeous! I’m always saying how brilliant Zara’s skirts are - and that’s a fantastic example. So, so perfect and easy to wear.

Can I just say, there’s another thread currently about a silver dress and a silver skirt. Really they need cross referencing - this one being rather the daughter of the other.

Great skirt. Would work with chunky boots, biker boots and slouchy boots. Maybe in burgundy or another shade of red. Thin knit on top with chunky scarf if cold. Think I’m off to check out Zara!

Thank you @OffToSeaInABlizzard I will have a read. That's helpful

Glad people like it - it's very nice to on. Such a good shape.

Burgundy is a good idea and suits me better than black. I wonder if I can find a fine knit burgundy top. Will have a browse... Olive could work as well. Thanks everyone.

I wonder if this might work... Perhaps it's a little too loose?

That’s a great outfit.

Love that skirt I've just ordered a black skirt from autograph marks and spencer, sorry I can't do links, it's midi length with layers of chiffon expensive at £65 but I do have a 20% off I thought it would look good with a chunky jumper and boots in winter.
