Help me pick a ring (not engagement)

Hi Everyone,

I am currently on a weightloss journey. I have lost 83lb/36.5kg since October and still have a long way to go.

When I get there I want to treat myself to a ring. I deserve nice things and I'm single and likely to always be so I can't wait for someone else to celebrate me.

However I have no idea were to start. So I thought you lovely ladies might be willing to help. I would set the budget at about £500 give or take. I'm not set on brand new but obviously the purchase is quite far in the future so even just helping me find what I actually want would be awesome.

I want something that looks lovely, doesn't look like an engagement ring (and obvs won't be worn on that finger) and I can wear often.

Anyone want to ring shop for me? 😁

Do you have a favourite stone, OP?

TizerorFizz · 29/08/2025 14:09

@Careeradviceplease1234 Helen Plumb at Just Gems. All sorts of designs. Or look at Amelia Appleby (Ameliaappleby.co.uk) Quite a few around your price point but you might need to add in £150. Or check out pre owned sites.

Secondhand vintage art deco ring?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/08/2025 14:12

Someone will suggest this so I will get in first Grin
Take yourself for a wander along to the Jewellery Quarter ( I think Birmingham , certainly London and Brighton which has The Lanes )

See what;s there , prices , styles . You might not find it straight away
You'll always get better value with antique or 2nd hand ,

My DD is looking forward to going to the Argyle Arcade when we're in Glasgow .

Have you looked at Tiffany? I have a stunning ring which is interwoven sort of mesh silver (they did do gold) and it just goes with everything. Of course they discontinued it. But still a lot of everyday options.

I also agree with finding a jewellery designer and have one made for you. I've got a sapphire and diamond gold ring which was made for me, but this was years ago in Spitalfields market area from a shop where the owner made designs up for you. Sapphire is my birthstone.

@MikeRafone thanks for the suggestions! The Ruby one isn't for me but this one is lovely.

I don't know what style I like which is a big part of the problem lol.

Someone said about vintage art deco which is a a style that I like generally in jewelry

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain getting one designed is a thought although I think my general indecision would be unhelpful in that process. But I'm sure a good designer could help with that

@Careeradviceplease1234 £500 won’t go far fir bespoke design and manufacture though unless it’s silver.

Mine was a few years ago and was just shy of approx £1,500.00. I could've spent more and it was from an inheritance but the designer worked with me to what I wanted. It was lucky it was round the corner from where I worked at the time so I could check in on progress.

Careeradviceplease1234 · 29/08/2025 22:25

Thanks everyone for all your thoughts. Plenty ti think a lot.

I really like this ring although I don't think I like the stones on the band. But this is kind of the vibe.

@Careeradviceplease1234 That’s an engagement ring though. Not gold and not real stones. It’s fairly bling and if you want that you will have to go lab grown.

SnowFrogJelly · 30/08/2025 01:11

Try Pia jewellery

Go to arabic or indian jewelers. You can get gold jewellery for very close to oficial per gram price. I would buy 18k rather than 21k and up btw, I found 21k bit too soft for my liking.

I've used Laurelle Jewellry several times they have a combination of vintage and vintage-inspired new pieces.

(they have an etsy shop too if you want to see their reviews https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/LaurelleLtd?ref=shop-header-name&listingid=737134193&frompage=listing)

These rings all feel like lovely “treat yourself” pieces — something you could wear often without them looking like engagement rings.Just sharing in case it gives you some inspiration。

That emerald eternity wave ring is gorgeous , it would be a stand alone as it would be the devils own job to line up with another unless you were a fan of a wonky offset solitaire Grin

I noticed my post upthread recommending jewellery quarters , my DD did indeed have a lovely browse in the Argyle Arcade and did not leave empty handed (necklace rather than ring )
