Fair isle knits

I love the knits at Celtic Co but wondering are there any other similar less spendy options - or are they worth the spend. Looking for something I can pull out every year for the foreseeable so don’t mind investing a bit

There will be cheap copies claiming to be "Fair Isle" but they are an insult to the real thing and not worth buying. Nothing wrong with Celtic & Co, but it's at the cheaper end of the worth buying brands.

In that price range there's Eribé, Bosie, Harley of Scotland, Plumo, McGeorge of Scotland amongst others.

Agree with above comment re paying for quality. Also, check with any local knitters; there just may be a local person willing to knit on request.

As a very skilled and very experienced knitter, a fair isle sweater for an adult would take me about 50 hours. I’d want at least £15 to £18 an hour. Plus the cost of decent wool for an adult sweater which would be about £80 to £100.
you are not getting much change from £1000.
please don’t ask someone who you know knits if they will just make you a sweater. You will annoy them

I think I’ve read that Celtic and co are doing a collab with Harley of Scotland but I don’t know what the prices will be like.

I treated myself to some Eribe fairisle last autumn and it’s lovely, though I since heard that it’s not all made in Scotland now which made me quite cross.

But if real fairisle is out of your price range, check Seasalt - they normally do some. It won’t be in the same quality league but it looks pretty decent although I don’t know how well it wears.
